A Xmas Fishing Poem
« on: Dec 24, 2003, 10:12 AM »
'Twas the night before icefishn' and all through the house
Not a creature was sturring not even a mouse
The ice rods were hung in the garage with care
In hopes that the guys would soon be their
The kids were all nestled all snug in their bed
While visions of Perch danced in their head
And mama in here fuzzy slippers and I in my wool cap
Had just settled in for a short winters nap
When out in the driveway ther rose such a clatter
I grabbed my shotgun to see whats the matter
And away to the window I flew like a flash
Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash
The moon on the breast of the fallen snow
Gave the luster of midday to the bum below
When what to my wondering eyes did appear
But a minipickup and 8 dead reindeer
With a little old driver so lively and quick
I knew in a moment it was my old friend Nick
More rapid than eagles his curses they came
I shot Dasher Dancer Prancer And Vixen! I got Comet Cupid and Donder and Blitzen
To the stairs of the porch to the top of the wall
I'll cut them wrap them and make sausage out of them all
He backed up to the garage and opend the door
And draged off the carcassas and threw them on the floor
Up to the front door curses they flew
The truck full of ice equipment and old Nick too
Then to the lake and out to the shed
Nick starts a fire and lights up his head
He was dressed all in fur from his head to his foot
And his clothes were still smoldering and full of soot
A bundle of rods he threw in the rack
And all the sharp hooks stuck him in the back
His eyes how they twinkled his dimples were hairy
His cheeks were like roses his nose like a cherry
His toothless little mouth was drawn up like a bow
And his beard of his chin was as white as the snow
The stump of a pipe he held with no teeth
And the smoke that encircled his head like a wreath
He had a broad face and a big fat belly
That shook when he laughed like Spam jelly
He was chubby or fat a right jolly old fart
And I laughed when I thought of him when we were apart
A wink of his eye and a flip of his jig
Soon gave me to know he caught another pig
He spoke not a word but went straight back to work
And he filled all the buckets and called me a jerk
He gave me the finger in front of my nose
And giving a nod off the bucket he rose
He sprang to his truck to the girls gave a whistle
And they all ran away like down on a Thistle
And I heard him exclaim as he drove out of sight
Merry Christmas ya bumm And have a good night

I see you're a better  poet than fly-tyer.
