Mouse trap tip up
« on: Jan 24, 2008, 12:01 PM »
 ???
Hi All.
When I was young, my Dad had a one year subscription to a US magazine called Camping. There were plans for a tipup made from a mousetrap and now that I'm 50 and an avid hard water angler (no bugs!) I'd like to make some of these.

There was also a plan for a folding windbreak/sleigh that looked pretting interesting too.

Has anyone else ever seen, read or heard of these?

Sammy

I knew I saw it on here before. Went to "search" & mousetrap.

I've used and tested different types of mousetrap triggers before. They're basically too sensitive for me under most conditions. I haven't played around with any lately, but I am sure there's some modifications that can be made to make them less touchy.

As with anything on ice - getting too mechanically complicated with too many moving parts can lead to equipment failure. It's amazing what one stray splash of water can do.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

actually, you can remove the spring trap from the set up, as the rod will act as the tension on the trigger bar.
The draw back is no loud snap when it is set off. If your worried about getting your fingers caught.
