A little help with quick-strikes?
« on: Mar 06, 2006, 12:57 PM »
OK, I've never used a quick-strike rig, but I like the sound of it.  I've tried to figure out how tie some up, from the info here in the IS, and some product photos.  If anyone wants to give me a quick rundown of how they make their own, I'd be really grateful.  I'm planning on using a flouro leader.  Thanks in advance!

:I use steel seven stran wire.  make a leader with a good swivel about 10 inches of wire  put wire thru the eye of first treble hook then attach tag end to another treble hook of the size you like.  I like #6 red  trebles for both hooks.  I prefer to put one hook thru top meat on the back of a minnow by the top fin and one hook thru top of minnow between tail and middle fin.  I prefer to use 4-8 inch minnows for this as they seem to be able to handle both hooks in them for quite a while.  I use #4 hooks on a quick strike with smelt one thru the gill plate with two hooks exposed and the second hook thru the middle of the smelt.  I try to make it hang as level as possible.  Keep trying, will help your catch ratio greatly.  Fishermen 50

yes, thanks for the help guys.  back-issues of in-fisherman are $8, but I think I can get my hands on a copy.  In the meantime, I tried some fluoro rigs of my own design.  they weren't perfect, but I did get a lot of action, and had a good flag to fish ratio.  I'll be working on some new rigs now.
