South Bass/Put-in-Bay ice
« on: Dec 26, 2017, 05:44 PM »
I flew over Put-in-Bay this after noon, and the ice is forming nicely. My buddy bought a Honda Pioneer and he and I built a new four man shanty, that has been sitting idle in my hangar for two seasons. It looks like the ice Gods are smiling upon us.

Thanks for that update. I figured from the picture that it wouldn't take long with these temps. Good news for a change!

I have stayed at the BLACK SQUIRREL up there. not sure if they only cater to ice guide clients though.
great place. right by Walleyes saloon and they served a breakfast before you left in the morning.

Their. I flew supplies to South Bass this afternoon. 40 plus shanties off of West Shore. The new ice ramp is in great shape. A few eyes are being caught.

Wondering if you were our pilot a few years back.
You had a six pack for the 3 of us that flew over.
You also buzzed a few of your buddies when we got close to SBI,
scared my 2 buddues who were in back.

Awesome trip and a great time at the bar after fishing..

Funny, but not me. I'm retired, not commercial. I live at the airport on the island now and fly privately.

I am on the ice now with my son and a buddy. The ice is in very good shape. Approximately 11 in thick very little snow. One fish on the ice so far. We are using a shanty we built 2 years ago that is steel sided with spray foam insulation. It is toasty warm.

Funniest thing about ice fishing for me is when people who know nothing about ice activities try to warn me about the dangers of the ice...

We fished 7 days off PIB west shore with good results, pearch and eyes. Pulled the shanty to the ramp until snow and wind subside. There is open water east of PIB.
