Any one interested in a get together on Houghton Lake??  Im thinking either jan 10 or 31 to miss Tip up town.  Hopefully by then we will have plenty of ice as there is about 8" today by my check.  I have a trip to wi planned for the next weekend in feb so thats out too. Let me know what you guys think. Last 3 weekends of Feb would work tho, and that might line up with smelting time at Higgins if anyone is interested.

Mike

Feb 14th works for me and doesnt line up with any festivals, (THAT I KNOW OF) lol.
Also should get into the smelting time, I hope, LOL.
Ok, let me know...... SOUND OFF!!!

Dopler's Back.  Where you been, friend?  January 10 is fine.  I'm hoping the snow melts.

I vote for sometime in February. Higgins will be frozen by then and we could go after smelt after the evening bite on Houghton is over.

As you know Dach, Houghton is a dawn and dusk lake with a lot of nothing happening in between. Catching hammer handle pike during the day doesn't really count either.  ;)

Oh I guess I neglected to say as of Tuesday afternoon, that 8" of ice was.
"BARE HARD ICE", darn hard to walk on but it was NICE. got a little snow yesterday and more coming so it will be easier to walk on.  I dont think a ft of snow will hurt it now! I went out last night for about 2 hrs right before Dark, was darn cold but beautiful, lol. and yes I did get visited by the skunked monkey but I really didnt care. LOL

All the snow melted?  Two weeks ago there was a foot of snow on the ground.  Then we got another foot during the week.  You're saying there's only an couple inches of snow on the lake.  Great news.  I'll be ready.  I have the week after Christmas off.  Planning on a t least a few days up North.

Do we have a date for the outing?  I plan on being up a lot of weekends, so my vote shouldn't count.  I'd enjoy a trip to Higgins.  Haven't been there in a few years.

Hey Mike, hope all is well!

Time is already lookin tight this winter, I'm planning on being up for both weekends of TUT and I was planning on coming up the weekend of Feb 21st for the Higgins Lake Wintefest but I'm being advised otherwise.... Right now the weekends of 2/14 and 2/28 are open!  ;)

I would like to go, I am new and would like to meet fellow ice fishers. The Feb 14th weekend sounds good. I have a 4 day weekend scheduled, my wife is going to Chicago to visit her sisters so I am free to fish until I pass out!
I've spent 75% of my life hunting and fishing, I've pretty much wasted the rest.

If the snow's not too deep I have a 5 X 8 trailer I can haul behind the quad.  A couple good sturdy lawn chairs makes it sorta safe.   We used it last time with no problems.  I'll go slow  -- really, I will.
