a toothless pike can still feed, ever had a fish swallow a bait. ive caught pike with a shedding of teeth plenty of times, usually in early jan. duh

Guys: Although I seriously doubt a pike looses all of it's teeth (like I said I think they just break them off now and then) it still has plenty of recurved teeth on the roof of it's mouth and i have never seen those missing. So even if it broke off some of those big ones in the jaw, there are still plenty of recurved teeth to hold on to prey.

I fish for Northerns regularly and have never seen a toothless pike at any time of the year. That is a myth. All the literature I have ever read has never mentioned a thing about tooth loss. There teeth mall fall out a few here and there but are replaced all the time. But if someone can prove me wrong I will be glad to tip my cap.

i caught 2 yes 2 pike without teeth . i wondered how i kept pulling in pike with a lindy GENZ BUG . then i realized on the second fish that it had no teeth. this is no myth

if anyone has ever seen a pike skull with all the meat off of it you would realize all the recurved teeth are part of the skull there it wouldn't seem very possible that they would loose them. if you think you have seen a toothless pike put your hand in its mouth let him clamp down and then give your hand a swift pull. the blood will tell you pike always have plenty of teeth.

I believe that the situation does belong to just the teeth in the jaw line and does not include the plates on the roof of the mouth. At least, as far as what I commented on goes.

7 out of 10 pike I caught last year at South Sandstone in MT, had the small teeth in the front of their mouths but absolutely no large teeth from the sides of their mouths, that is not a myth. At Castlerock lake, 150 miles away, all the pike I caught had all their teeth. Just my $.02.

Yeah but the myth is they lose ALL of their teeth. Of the hundreds of pike I have mounted in the 24 years I've been a taxidermist I have never seen a pike with no teeth.

the majority of a pikes teeth are on the roof(top) of their mouth not on the "sides"

I once caught a pike with one tooth, but it had a blender with it and the fish asked me to grind up the shiner for him so he could eat it.
I think he told me he had gingivitis. True storey.

Perhaps that toothless fish conned the 23 plus fish to eat your bait as a form of pay back.It was probably her that was responsible for knocking

his teeth out and bullying all the other fish around or something like that?

In my experience, in mid February to March, the northern get real hesitant in taking bait and eating it like earlier in winter. If you do catch one at that time the teeth on the roof of their mouth are gone or are red and inflamed. Just my experience.

I'm sure it never occurred to you that everything isn't the same worldwide ,countrywide , or in every lake. Maybe it is something specific with a condition in some lakes. Nice fish GAMEDOG!
