fly fishing in the winter

has anyone ever tried to use their flies from the spring under the ice?? i saw a video of a guy using them for gills and he did good...got a little impromptu tourney tomorrow and most panfish wins and boy do i like winning....lost last yrs by two fish 75 to 73 i need those extra three gills

i got a small wooley bugger on my line now... ive caught  bass trout sunnies  on it i dont see why it wouldnt work, im gonna try it tuesday

ill let u know what happens in the morning. but there is not a single trout in this lake.

I tie all my own ice jigs and they all resemble my flies from trout fishing. My most productive jig this year has been a #10 beadhead midge!

i usuly use a fly i tie on a 10 hook with a bit of wax worm on it with a small split shot about 10 inches above it, i jig this and it is good for all pan fish.

ended up coming in third in the panfish 23 to 20 to 19. my dad had the twenty..did alright on a little gitzit plastic forgot that i had my flies with me but ill try to remember to use them next time. missed the pickerel of a lifetime tho would of easily went 5 or 6 pounds he broke the line as soon as his nose broke the water and i went in to my shoulder trying to get him oh well maybe next time

Sounds like it would work, but ive never tried it.  Ill try it sometime soon and see:)
