Where to set up
« on: Jan 30, 2019, 05:09 AM »
I’m taking my son to a local small fishing derby February 9th.  The lake is only 50 acres  shallow and has one spot that is 24 ft deep.  Back in December we had good luck on tip ups for bass and northern well away from the deeper part in 4-6 ft of water just off the weeds.  Would this still be a good spot to set up or should we go by the deeper hole?   The contest is for all species so we will prob jig for pannies as well.  Thanks much

I would set up in the 5-15 foot range. Put some tip ups just off the bottom, and some about half way between the bottom and the ice. Good luck.

Fished s similar pond as you describe a few weeks ago. We were having the best luck in 5 feet of water just off weeds with minnows set just under the ice. The fish were coming right up in the hole to grab the bait. The bigger the bait the better on that day..

It was nonstop action ... Caught over 40 Largemouths and Pike that day just before the storm hit.
