Bluegill VS Perch
« on: Feb 06, 2018, 09:54 AM »
So I am having a heated debate with a fellow fisherman, over whether the majority of fellow ice fisherman would rather eat bluegill or perch. If you all could help us out and just reply with a one word response with your preference that would be most helpful. Thanks in advance.

perch, but gills are much easier to catch (depending on lake) and are bigger fillets. prefer to catch redear over all of them.

restaurants have perch more often than gills. we have gills on our menu tho and no perch.

Bluegill all day. I actually had perch for the first time yesterday. It’s alright. It’s third in my list behind crappie.

Bluegill are just the most amazing fish there is. Not hybrids, not pumpkinseeds, not green sunfish. The real deal. I only keep them in the winter and I really wish morels sprouted in January. If I could have fresh morels and fresh winter bluegill at the same time, I would finally reach enlightenment.

How does one get Walleye, Whitefish, Crappie etc. out of the 2 choices in this survey...Bluegill and Perch?  The (mis)understanding of the English language by Americans never ceases to amaze  ::)

By the way, I can't vote...I'm the fellow fisherman spoken of here.  ;D

if I have to pick I'd probably pick perch.... Simply because I've never seen a gills put off a fillet like a 13" perch and I like my fish thick and flaky... Hence why I choose whitefish and walleye... To be honest... With Drake's and a little panko I really struggle to taste much of a difference of any of the species I catch.... Maybe cooked a different way it would be more profound

Perch by a slim margin, but I can't seem to catch them big enough unless it's on Erie during softwater.

Because, between bluegill and perch the clear choice is bluegill and crappie :)

I get to eat gills all the time since perch are not as prevalent in indiana so I like when I get a mess of perch. Can't really beat winter gills though.
