we have iced many fish up to just over 20# this ice season. I even had one in the hole that who knows how heavy it was? 30-40#.....I'll never know. Pike have been anywhere from 13"-46". Average fish has run 30" and fat.
if anybody from michigan will help me out with the lakes and stuff up here I'd really appreciate it since I'm new to the area.

My 3rd Pike another little guy on a Tip-up

The only pike pic I've seen posted on this is one that doesn't appear to be near 20 pounds as claimed, and held out at arms length in front of the camera.

Nice fish on here guys...pics say it all, especially when there's no "trickery" tried as the pic is being taken......Esox

Another "nice" comment, but pics are being posted by most and some are just talking about the pike they have iced...or nearly iced......

Thats what I mean..one guy talks about an "almost 30" another one says it was 30 maybe even 40....and I checked the pics they had posted of a nice pike and in all my years I've never seen a 20 that small....but the "pond" they fish are chock full of 20#ers plus.....you've got me...I think the thinner air up there might be making those 2 delusional.....

The 22 lb Northern we caught in Peck this year was right at 43 inches. There is a picture of a 21 and 22 lb Pike in my Peck picture post. The bigger fish, the photo doesnt do him justice. My point is I agree wholeheartedly with billybono. Except in rare cases, a 20 plus pound Pike should average around 40 inches or just over. I looked at that photo Esox, the one where iceintheveins is making a funny face. It could be 20 I suppose. Its sometimes hard to gauge the true size of a fish from a photo, but I would guess high teens for that fish.

Once Pike reach a certain size they add girth much faster than they add length so your 38 inch fish being 13 to 14 lbs does not surprise me airmancam. Nice fish. That is one to be proud of. Looks like the weather was a tad frosty also.

Here's a bigger one....46"/25 lbs. (released)

Esox - give me a call anytime your up this way.

I use 25 lb. braided dacron line....barrel swivel....36" 40 lb. mono leader....barrel swivel....18" 30 lb. wire quickstrike. Next weekend I'm going to try a new quickstrike that IceTroll made up for me. It's a thin single strand wire material and looks awesome. Can't wait to try it.
