I'm planning a trip to head up north a bit again this year. Last year we got a motel but I was thinking what if we stayed right on the ice and fish insted of dragging it all out to the truck just to come back the next day and drag it back out. This is in a FLIP OVER not a big wheel house. If I keep the vents open and the door unzipped a little bit to keep fresh air coming in. C O detector up and running. Little buddy on a 20# tank on low, It should work right? Anyone else do this? How did you do it? Thanks!

Hey

I've done it in a Otter Team Wild 2 man flip over. I use same heater on low and you're good. Make sure flip over is well anchored incase wind picks up.

Don't forget to put out extra reflectors so the snowmobilers don't run you over.

Believe me it can be done but don't expect to get a full nights sleep. If you can find large reclining lawn chairs to sit in, it is easier than trying to lay down in a sleeping bag. Try them in your shanty before you hit the ice and ou will get a better idea about sleeping in it.

I haven't done it in a flip over but we've done it in my command post before. I didn't worry to much about the vents as I didn't seal the floor up real good and there were some drafts any way. I ran a 20 pounder to my buddy and left a CO dectector going through the night. We had two cots and 0degree bags and were very comfy on a -8 degree night.

I sleep in my flip over all the time...between bites, that 1:00 lull, a short nap after setup, after a few beers and a lunch of beans and venison...you name it!

michianafisherman good idea! I have a clam scout so there isn't going to be much room. I think if I keep my tub dry and just pull up my seat and crash

As long as you do keep track of the carbon monoxide levels like you said. One of the first fatalities of the deer season here in Michigan was a guy sleeping in his vehicle using a lantern for heat.

You may freeze important body parts.... other than that, you should be fine.

I've done it, it was miserable.

I sleep in my otter some times. I set a cot up half in tub and half on the ice. It works great.

Could you guys tell me if the back of the bench seats in an otter wild can be reclined to a flat position? I have never seen one and have always wondered. Thanks

Never slept in a flip over but sleep in the 6x12 hub style on cots a fair bit. Have slept 6 people on cots comfortably on a -20c night. This year I want to spend a night when its down to -40 to see how comfortable it is

Many excellent suggestions there. I'd like to add a couple. "Some" ventilation is good because your heat sources, including your own breathing, will produce copious amounts of moisture. It will either accumulate as frost or water droplets on the tent material if it can't escape. You probably already know the saying if your feet are cold, put on a hat......well, the same goes in bed when sleeping in the cold. Good sleeping gear is important as well. Have fun.......there's just something about sleeping out in freezing weather..........kinda like getting one over on 'ol mother nature!!!!

Sadly, no it can not. If it could I would sell my house and live in it.

Took a trip to thousand islands 2 years ago. Buddy has a 14 foot Mission V nose that he build bunks in. We just stayed in that all weekend. Looking to do it again this year! Drove it right out on the ice that year, hopefully can do the same this year.

Haven't Tried it yet. But me and the lady r planing on tryin it this year. Just to say we did. In NE South Dakota the lakes are fairly small so its not a big deal loading an unloading.

It would just be neat to say you slept on a frozen lake in a plastic tub.

not to mention that's when the lunks like to feed

I have started not using my heater during longer slumbers. It helps to have a sleeping bag rated at -40 deg. Most of the time I just stay in my ice fishing bibs and coat and sleep on a cot with the bag laid on top. Keep the heater close enough so you can light it from a prone position. I love the rush I get when the wyoming wind comes up and makes me wonder if my tent will survive! I anchor my sled with two eskimo screws right through the bottom of the sled. Sorry so long...

I try to do it almost every weekend. I have an Otter Village (flips out on both sides of the tub).

I put my heater and gear on one side of the tub. Fish out of the other side.
The gear and the dog's side of the tub.

This is a shot of my self inflating air mattress that I put in the bottom of the tub, GOOD sleeping bag, and pillow.
I keep my air mat. Inflated in between the tent and the poles during the day.

Setup to fish and sleep.

I would think that I would be a fairly easy custom job.. I havent seen the seats in person but I can imagine that it would be easy to do.... Yes?
