Was wondering the best way to build and bait a minnow trap?

Never tried to build one. Got 3 store bought ones. Carry them with me to the lake and when I see a bunch of minnows in shallows I bait with rolled up bread chunks about the size of marbles or mini marshmallows and set her out, Also have a creek near my house that always gets me minnows. Son uses saltine crackers and cheerios too. Be careful of turtles. They can damage your trap. Got a few nice snappers sitting by my traps. Take a stick and stick it in front of their nose, sooner or later they will bite it. Just grab them by tail and pick them up. Good eating.  Steve

store bought minnow traps usually have like a 1" hole on each end. how does a turtle, the size worth eating, get in?

It doesn't get in. It bites the trap and bends the wire all up. The turtle uaually hangs around the immediate area by the trap. Not uncommon at all around here. Guess they are looking for a easy meal seeing how the minnows in trap cant swim away.  Steve
