Ever get tangled around the camera line?
« on: Sep 28, 2011, 04:21 AM »
I usually put my camera down a separate hole from the one I'm fishing in.  Anyone ever hook a fish that wraps the line around the camera line making it tough to get either up?  If you use a separate hole, how far away do you put yours?

I was actually stuck on bottom once, grabbed the camera to see where it was stuck, and ended up pulling up a clump of line with a ~20" salmon on it...I was shocked.

Usually we set up the camera in one hole of the shack and jig in the other. I would say they are 3' apart.

I have had to cut and untangle a fiesty 4 pound Pikerel from my camera once, the thrashing he gave the camera was bad enough that it snapped off one of the tripod legs ! :'( I drill my camera hole off to the side like lewk said
about 3 foot, I line up all 3 holes so I can watch both lures at the same time.

I think I end up a little further then 3 feet.  I might set mine four or five feet away.  I like to have a nice view of two lines and everything around.  I would say that three feet is a minimum for me.  Never had a fish get tangled.... YET!   :o

I use a separate hole for mine also and the only tangle I have had was when a snot rocket got all the lines in the shack and the camera cable tangled together.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

Separate hole always, and usually 3 to 4 feet apart. I have had fish wrap  but very rare.

I usually down view and will space the holes according to the water clarity. I like to stay up several feet but sometimes I have to go lower to see my jig.. I have a few fish wrap but still land most of them

See you on the frozen pond.......Mike

I jig for pike with a camera, and usually only have my camera hole 15-20 inches away. Never had a problem getting a fish caught in the camera cord, but I`m sure it`ll happen sooner or later.
