Funny thing is my one wife likes the 6" mora with the Dewalt, and the other wife likes the 7" laser with a Milwaukee!
2 wives and they both like to ice fish with you!

Hey ION users: wondering about the battery recharge time.  How long does it take to recharge it?  Has anyone used an inverter with the charger and recharged on the ice while you were fishing or overnight in a permy?  I don't see myself drilling enough to run the battery down in a day but would hate to run outta juice at the end of the day or when I'm on the ice for a couple of days at a time.

Last time out I drilled 30 - 35 holes. The battery indicator still showed 3 of 3 lights & it took about 20 - 25 minutes to recharge when I got home.

What got me thinking was looking at my trolling motor on the front of my boat one day, how quiet and easy it is to use. So I bought an Ion, always wanted one after seeing someone using one a couple years ago.

Got to finally use it last weekend. Push a button and go, simple. Watched my friend with his jiffy 30 pull start it 8 times, pinning the throttle, and priming it almost at the same time to get it to warm up. When it did finally start, it sounded like a Harley with straight pipes. Had a deja vu moment there. Was waiting for the pull rope to stop short to give him a good stinger, those are aggravating too.

there are many advantages to electric.  the one thing one must realize though is that convenience comes at a cost.  there are hundreds of small engine motored augers still running today 20-25 years later.  if you take care of a small engine it can last forever it seams with very little cost involved.

electric products burn up and batteries go bad.  i've invested thousands of dollars the last 15 years in cordless drills/batteries just from normal use.  your bit will last as long as the gas powered auger bits obviously but that power source will need to be replaced.

i like electric because we fish a few areas where there are homes near the water and its easy to carry around, but when those 2 things aren't a reason, i put the miles on the gas, not the drill.

They will all work, some better than others, I have a Milwaukee m18 that I use.  No I guess the ones that your wife would use in the house will not work!!!

I just ordered a K-Drill and bought a 20 volt Dewalt to turn it with. Can't comment yet since I haven't tried it, but I mainly stalk perch and bluegills now so I'm looking forward to the light weight and instant holes with no rope pulling or warm-up. My SM 224 served me well for 12 years, but this year it failed me so I thought "May as well go electric."

I still plan to fix the 224, it started fine in fall (first pull) but just wouldn't fire at all once we had ice.

I think you are going to like I. Hopefully you bought a brushless dewalt?
