Well, a group of Ice Shanty anglers wants to "Hook up" and do a little fishing together (I am sure eating and B.S. will also be included) and with some input, this looks like the place and day to have a Gathering! All are invited, there is plenty of parking and I am sure most of us will be a short walk from the boat ramp. Looking at the map I have a spot in mind for a "Base Camp"; that first point on the East side is about 800' from the boat ramp, but I am open to suggestions if someone knows a better spot... Please post if you think you can make it! I know I will be bringing a bunch of food and some shelter with a heater if needed... I do believe that by then, there will be plenty of safe ice!

Looking forward to making it out and that there will be plenty of ice. And hoping to meet some others that I don’t normally ice fish with and have some fun.

I am going to try my hardest to make an appearance. They did throw a lot more trout that usual in there this fall so that's a plus

I’ll try to make it for a few hours. That’s Super Bowl Sunday fyi. Pats aren’t in it so I’m not too worried about it but some guys might care. Just throwing that out there.

Excellent location ! I'll be there for sure 100%.
I would have to say that base camp location will be great. Although I personally always watch wind speed and direction before setting up my sitting area. I'm looking forward to this as it's been a while since my last gathering. Haven't been to Bartons in a good while because I don't like the way the water levels rise and fall throughout the day busting up the edges.
The last time I fished Long Pond I got a 7lb bass not far from shore at the access.

I think this was our last big gathering in Holden mass . Phenomenal day with gorgeous weather. Sad to know we lost one of these great guys a year ago yesterday😔 Tommy ,back row center in red next to me and the old Neon Suit lol. He was wearing sandals that day on the ice🙂.

East shore can be very windy..I usually sit on west shore out of wind..

Each "Gathering" I have made it to has been lots of fun. Not always a lot of fish, but a good time anyways... Hope to see you there!

Do we have a back up date just in case? Looking at the forecast, it appears we will start getting ice making weather last day of January into February. However we know how the forecast changes daily around here. Could be 20mph winds on the coldest days preventing ice formation?

I have not thought about a backup date yet, I thought to just play it by ear... I think there will be safe ice, but I will get down there a few days before to check it out. I am more concerned about a bunch of layers and slush, making getting around so much more fun...

I doubt there's much if any ice right now there. Probably won't have to worry about slush as much as actual ice. I'm not too far from there and can go check as well.

Next week looks like there will finally be a few cold days but it’s in the 40’s today and then supposed to be high 40’s this weekend. Is there any ice at the pond at all now? I assume we will be starting from scratch again after this weekend. What a crazy year.

Haven't been by long pond but by the looks of a few ponds up the road I would imagine that its mostly open water near the boat ramp with a little ice on some of the far end coves

I drove by it while working and did not have a pick with me but it is covered with the slushy grey, of wet snow. The only open areas were between the roads, but the main lake was coved with ice, what quality, I don't know.

We have 5 days of good ice making weather starting Tuesday night. Couple days VERY cold . It's the week before the 12th that it's gonna slightly warm up again.

I bet there is safe ice at Long Pond now... I will be by there Friday with a pick to check it out. I won't bother to look at the forecast this early as it will most likely be wrong this far ahead. I am looking forward to seeing a bunch of you!

I was there yesterday. 6" of ice out off the ramp. a large section of open water out towards the middle.

I can't imagine this is going to happen now.. I was in the area yesterday (different waterbody) and the ice was already less than I expected after the cold spell. The place I fished was mostly 3-4 inches with some thicker ice in areas that got minimal sun. Edges were completely gone when I left and there was basically one safe spot to get off the entire lake without a board.
