Trucks on the ice?
« on: Jan 21, 2013, 06:21 PM »
Has anyone been seeing any trucks/other vehicles on the ice yet?

I guess first off, do many people drive their vehicles out on the ice around here?  I have to ice transportation but my jeep if I can ever get it out on the ice...

How long until you think we start seeing trucks on the ice in the marquette/gwinn area?

There was a car and two trucks out on Little Shag when I was out there on Sunday.

We are driving on gene's pond in dickinson, Sawyer lake in dickinson and I seen 2 on witch lake in marquette county. There were plenty on teal lake saturday. Anytime it gets over a foot I drive my dakota out. 16" and I will take my f150 out.  Steve

Good Question after this last week the ice has to be getting pretty thick, I have not been out since Saturday and I wonder how thick the ice is now.  Hopefully I don't need a five foot extension for my auger. :o

I drove out tonight and fished, the ice was about 14" with a couple inches of snow. I only like to do it on lakes that I am very familiar with though

Yeah I was thinking after this cold there would be some decent ice for driving. I'm coming up next weekend to fish Fortune Lake and some of the surrounding in that area. Was just curious if I would be able to take the truck on or hike it.

Esoxangler27, I am sure you can drive on fortune and the other lakes over there. They are a cold spot around here.  Been below zero every morning this week. Tuesday was 26 below at Witch Lake. Ice is getting thicker every minute. 4 degrees as I type.   Steve

Anybody seeing and trucks on the ice in the Gwinn or nearby areas with all of the snow we have now? I don't have a sled, and hate walking far while carrying gear... Although, I hate getting stuck even worse than walking.. ;D

I dont think ice thickness is an issue.... the springs are what id be worried about!
On the bright side....jeeps are light compared to a full size truck...lol

Esoxangler;   26 below this morning. All lakes around here are close to 2 feet of ice.

I'm sure you'll be fine with the snow, if you do get stuck though you know who to call.
