Couple of Metro Smallmouth on Ice
« on: Jan 30, 2019, 09:57 PM »
Another warm water species off the list when it comes to ice fishing. Went to Chatfield on Tuesday after seeing how hammered the weekends there have been. Mostly near the tower since that is where everyone has been.  It paid off for me, not many fish and nothing big but got into some smallies to say the least.  Just remember to bring them up slow if you're targeting them.

I marked what looks like a school 2 feet below the ice in 21fow, i reeled up fast to the school and hooked into one of the fish, but got off. Anyone know what it might be?

Yea, i don't know about snagging a shad, because i slowly brought my lure up to entice a bite, now the trout one is likely.  Wish it was a school of crappie.

Nice Vid! Smallmouth sure are fun, seems like they don't fight very hard under the ice though. Still cool to catch something other than trout.
