if its a recessive gene it would have to reproduce with another fish with the recessive trait, and then the offspring would have to survive without the stripes that provide camouflage in a pickeral infested cayuga lake, but i see the point

yeah, al gore nailed that one.... ???   I think the real "inconvenient truth" is that al gore is an idiot. Not inconvenient for me, I rather enjoy that fact, but more so for him...

I caught a bowfin once in the seneca river that had serious blue colored hue to him.  Those dinosaurs are scary looking enough, but a blue one looked like it came from mars. Maybe its some kind of vitamin deficiency?
