Messolonskee lake
« on: Feb 15, 2018, 02:48 PM »
Hey guys, ive been doing some research on fishing messo for pike.  We went out about a month ago, and struck out as conditions were a little tough on foot.  Planning on bringing a group of friends out again in early march and was looking for some pointers.  You can definately PM me as i know this info is carefully guarded.  After searching and reading i did see that people usually fish about 10 ft under the ice regardless of depth.

There are several areas on Snow Pond that have had little or no ice all winter.  It is one of the most dangerous lakes in Maine for those unfamiliar.  In the timeframe you suggest,  I believe your party would have more fun and a safer time fishing in front of Great Meadow Stream, either Great or North Pond wouldn't matter.

Great Pond should have walk-on, snomo access by the old Crystal Springs Camps in Rome village, North Pond usually has same out around a bit to the west side of the lake (Mercer side)

Thanks guys. I did see that there was a launch in the stream on north side of north. But with these warm temps I can't imagine it's accessible

Sorry to keep digging But as far as north pond goes. Would there be parking on Pond rd on the north west side (mercer side). Just afraid of getting up there and wasting an hour or two driving around looking for a place where i wont be given a hard time for parking. Thanks

Just park on north shore drive, dozens of others will be.  Walk out to the island on your right and pike away. @)

I am headed there with two Kids on winter break Monday. I am assuming Snow pond is a no go accessing from the Belgrade Stream access? Is there any other access points on that end of the lake? Or is there any public access points on long lake?  Thank for any help.

Report of a wheeler through on the south end yesterday, i assume in the stream area.  North end open water as well, dam has been open all winter, very dangerous right now.
