Not sure how many folks are still checking in with the ice mostly gone here in MA. Headed north for round 2 on Champlain. Left the house Saturday morning at 1:30am. Checked into Holiday Harbors and on the ice for sunrise. 5 of us for this trip. Pulled up to the parking lot of one of our favorite spots. Could'nt have gotten on with a 20' plank stream pouring in and water every where. was opting for plan B when we saw a small and I mean small spot that was a maybe. 2 6' planks later and we were on and drilling holes. Ice was 7 to 8 inches and soft and full of air but fishable. Fishing was like a few weeks ago. Slower than usual but most of the fish were bigger. Had to make a quick run back to the truck around 11am. 4 feet from the plank and plunk 1 leg in. Frank had to make a run back slowly approached the plank and yup both legs in up to his waist. Weather was warm and top of the ice we were on was starting to soften more. New getting off at the end of the day was going to be tricky. But that was to worry about at the end of the day. Hung in there until 6pm and cautiously headed to the trucks. Trip turned in to a 1 day fish as wind was howling this morning and things were still a little wet. Time to put it all away.
