Ok.. The ideas have been compiled and the public polled. Here are the details for the 2007-2008 Ice Shanty Get Together.
Date: January 5-6
When: Meet at 11:00 AM (that way everyone can get in on the morning bite first if they want to)
Where: Canyon Ferry Lake:Silos Recreation Area Everyone bring their hunters orange. We will wear that at first so we can tell who is there from the shanty.
JigMaster5000 will bring his fire ring so we will set up Ice Shanty HQ. He would appreciate it if everyone could bring some firewood since there is not much there to gather. Food and drinks will be on your own.
I was thinking that we could do a fishing pool where everyone pitches in $5 and the person with the biggest fish of the weekend wins the cash.
Please post if you plan to make it. Any other ideas are welcome. If you have questions, let us know.

My dad is full of it. Coors is the primary financial sponsor for the non-profit American Enterprise Institute which is very adamant about its anti-gun control position. So, I say drink more coors. ;D

I must have missed the conversation that moved this thing up date wise... I read the entire other thread and the last dates thrown out were the last weekend in January during the tourney...what happened to that..
I think you may not even have ice the first weekend in January the way things have been going!
I can go the last weekend in January but not the first....too far to drive for the "chance" that there will be ice....

Would you guys mind if a newbee showed up? I've been known to stand on the ice a throw back a few beers and I don't leave home without the wiskey :thumbsup:. I also have some fire wood I could bring.

No problem. You are definitely welcome. Also, any lurkers out there, this is your time to get involved. I think the more people we have the more fun we will have.

I've been laid up for a couple months with a broken heel, but it's getting better, just a slow proposition. Guided fly fishing all summer, so I didn't have ANY time to be on line. But with winter here, and the hard water of course, HERE I am.

Then I guess it would be more like "10 feet from Jiggy" as long as we both have BEER IN HAND who cares?

Beer, stories, firewood, beer, some food(i'll bring a little barbeque), beer, bait, lures, stories, beer and something to sit on.
bait at this area includes...woolly buggers (brown or a light pink if you can find them), nightcrawlers,and don't forget the beer

Fishing gear - bait (live minnows are not allowed but maggots for perch and trout and cut bait for ling), up to 6 tipups
There is a bait and tackle shop at the marina that should be able to supply anything you might forget.

hunters orange if you have it (we will wear it until we get grouped together)
some sort of sleeping arrangement. (I plan on sleeping in my truck but Townsend is not too far away. The Mustang Motel (266-3491) is in Townsend. Or there are plenty of places to park campers or trailers if you have one.
That should be about it.

Yes you guessed it!! I travel well prepaired... How about some WILD TURKEY? :woot: oz. for oz. that will keep you warmer than most. :thumbsup: at least thats what I hear. Personaly i've never had the stuff ;)2 I hear it's bad for your liver and, makes you do things you otherwise wouln't do. Not really my style, nope not at all... ;)2 Ok now back to reality. I will bring my portable stripper (the fish ;) pole (you guys have dirty minds). But i'm not sure if there are any strippers in CF...

ya there's a pretty good chance :-\ it will suck. No one to tell us what to do, tell us the right way to do it, tell us we are doing it wrong, tell me my hat don't match my gloves, telling me every 20min that they have to go pee, telling me honey I'm cold, saying honey haven't you had enough to drink, no one wanting to go home early because she misses her little tiny ass dog that looks like a god damn rat! which reminds me I think that little rat would make great pike bait for a tip-up. How are going to make it?? We probably woun't even have fun.

We do for ling but it can be pretty lonely. I guess not too many people care for waiting around in the dark on a frozen wind swept lake for a fish that looks like it was hit with an ugly stick.

Well it beats sitting in a bar looking for a chance to, well you know the rest, it has to do with a women thats been hit with a ugly stick. Besides I treasure my own company ;D is there a chance of catching one of those tasty ugly sticks?

I am going to quick like make myself a portable shanty in the morn. and then I am hoping to get out and give it a try. If I am going to drive that far to fish I have no prob sitting a few hours after dark. :tipup:

Fish the bottom with cut bait on tipups and you should catch a few. I havn't fished there as much as Hauser, so I can't tell you the best place to go.

I believe I'll bring my little barbecue out along with my fold up table. Table works good, trout goddess fell in love with it at the reservoir.

I'm sure Jiggy will bring his little propane stove, and my table will hold both that and my little barbecue, so we'll be set up to eat, drink, and be merry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Walltrout- bought me a new vexilar at sportsman's today...all charged up and ready to hit the reservoir tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday, and sunday......

How do you get to the silos from sportsmans

Get back on I-15 heading south, take the Prospect Ave (Capitol) exit and head east on HWY 12 towards Townsend. Townsend is about 30 miles. Look for 2 big brick silos on the right hand side of the road. You will see signs for the Silos RV and Marina. If you get to Townsend, you have gone too far.

The two big brick silos are on the left coming from Helena....about 20 miles or 22 I think....You'll see a bar on the left, and that's where you turn left.towards the lake. Straight ahead about 1 mile and you should see a bunch of people wearing orange.

Anyone know what the Ice is currently like out thier. My moms worried
