Ace in the hole those cocoons are praying mantis I have the all over my bushes in front of my house. Never thought about using them for bait

Crickets are great pannie bait. A little tough to collect in the winter but summer thru fall, if you have a local bakery get an unsliced loaf of bread, dig into one end and hollow it out. Set it out overnight and check it early in the morning. Cricketsssss!

Don't forget about pickin' yer own crawlers and keeping 'em well into the winter.

Haven't seen catalpa works for a while.   Man those were some killer catfish bait. Always caught alot of cats on them.

We use to try and get Catalpa worms on the small side and pinch off the head and use a big stick match to turn them inside out. They have some kind of egg sack looking white things that hang off the skin. Thread onto a bluegill hook and let them dangle. Caught a lot of gils fishing them on a long glass cane pole and quill bobber.
