What is the best material and color to use for hole covers? What do you use?

I have seen people use carpet squares (like cut offs from a carpet place). Or R-board (Foam insulation).

I use Frabill Thermel Tipups.  So no need here.

Yes they are hole covers, 12" circle with a hole in the center and a slit down the side to slide your line or tipup shaft through.. I saw them at Gander a couple seasons ago but haven't seen them since. Very light and flexable. There is a pic of them at the site, actuall there are 2 pics if you page through the ones on the 7th or 8th page without the writing on them are the ones I ordered. I'd put up a link but I don't know how.

Wallyworld camping section - buy a sleeping bag foam bedroll (to lay on ground then put sleepingbag on)
I think I paid $7. You can cut 8 or so outta it. Works great.
Lowboy

Slammer w/ tube n mineral oil(just a drop, friggin chill!)

Windlass w/ tube n mineral oil(see above!)

I was at Gander Moutain yesterday and half way through my shopping I thought about checking out the sleeping pads. I was on my way to check out winter gloves and forgot to make it to the camping pads. :-\ I will now be looking for black ones. Thanks.

One of Americas biggest faults is that most would rather shell out hard-earned cash for an inferior no-doubt made in China product instead of making a better product themselves. Make it yerself when ya can. BETTER n CHEAPER. I speak , not so much of the hole covers , but everything in general!

I say foamboard insulation would work good but will crack if you bend it too far. maybe if you have some thin extra plywood, you could glue it to the bottom so it won't bend.

The problem with Foam board is that the slightest breeze and it's gone.

I have the ones that they sell at Gander Mountain.

I have seen them made out of small carpet pieces, but I think that these might hold lots of water.

The Sleeping bag mat is a good idea, use a dark color and it will help keep the hole from freezing.

Hope this helps,

Wiener
