Frabill Bro Series
« on: Jan 31, 2009, 01:55 PM »
Right now I'm using a medium action rod for catching perch.  I want to get a rod that is lighter.  Kind of tough sensing bites.  I was taking a look at the bro series combos and they seem pretty good.  Should I get the ultralight or quick tip?  I'll be using this rod for panfishing (perch, crappies and bluegills).  Anyone have experience with these rods?

Thanks.

Another vote for the QuickTip.  Got the last one at Cabela's here in Utah and have been catching a lot of gills and perch on it.  Great
sensitivity and backbone.  I took it to a lake that has trout and perch and performed really well on the bigger trout.

This rod may also double as my deadstick rod.

I got the Quick Tip also. I really like the rod and the quality is very good also. Its my designated deadstick and dropper rig/hali rod. The reals arn't too bad for a combo reel either but I would buy a Tica instead.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Question, I was looking at some pictures and what is that piece of cloth on the tip of the rod for anyways?  It says Frabill on it.

It's just a tag I think. I used it to test the backone and sensitivity on the rods in the store

I just noticed some of the guides close to the tip are slightly crooked on my rod...    >:(

Anyone else have this issue with your bro rods?

I was doing some searching and I guess this is a common occurrence, even with the higher end rods.

Doesn't seem to affect functioning.  Line goes smoothly through the guides.  Just cosmetic...still stinks though.

Ya it stinks!! paid like 40 bucks for the combo and didn't expect to see a defect like that.  If I woulda seen that on a st. croix I woulda flipped and returned it.

St Croix was one of the higher end rods that supposedly had crooked guides.

the crooked guides are a result of the laquer not being able to do the best job holding a tiny guide foot on a tiny rod blank. with the very small surface area available to adhere to there isn't much they can do. it is very common on lighter rods. if you sent the rod back all they would do is either reglue the guides or send you another one that will probably do the same thing.

Regardless of the guides this is one great rod!  Detecting those light biters is really cool.

Catching plenty of fish with it!
