What do you think is the best rod and reel for fishing perch?  I'm looking for some good deals late in the season!

I like an ultralight that has a very sensitive tip and a little more backbone so you can get good hooksets, the UL frabil panfish popper is a good rod for perch, just find one that feels good in your hands and go with it.

Thanks for the info!  Does the # of guides matter much, or just a matter of preference?

I got an ice blue earlier in the season but the eyelets are small and that means they freeze shut quicher. I just picked up a berkley on clerance and used it this past weekend. Not quite as sensitive but bigger eyelets. Both are 24" ultra lights.

I have a couple of HT ICEMAN Power System 24" Light ICL-24 rods that
work real well on perch/gills. The eyes are fairly large and do not ice up
to bad and they are sensitive. I picked them up at Wal-Mart for around
$5.00 each. A real nice rod for that price.

I have a couple of HT rod/reel combos at Dick's for about $20 each. The rods are great but the reels could be better quality.

that's BECAUSE you pad 20 FRICKEN BUCKS for it!!!!  you can't buy a decent reel for twenty bucks so why would they put one on a combo?

anyways.... find a rod that feels good, reels don't matter much for perch they aren't known for getting into the backing much
