well up hear in NoDak im already on my 4th last trip out on the ice, caught a nice 7 lb 30 inch northern on saturday, also cut part of my thumb tip off while cleaning it, what "last trip" are you guys on

Hard to say. The next one will be #3 but maybe it's not the last one.

We are starting to make plans for ice fishing the opener here May 5th, bringing charcoal grills out and making a party of it. As much ice as we still have now is like we are still in mid February. I heard this morning they still have 48" of ice on Lake of the Woods. Right now they are calling for 8" to 10" of snow here this Saturday. The snowmobile is still ready.

After fishing on 24-25" of solid ice last weekend and our opener on May 5th, the question is, do I use an extension or not? Because we will be ice fishing in 25 days.

haha, hopefully you wont need an extension on opener, i hope that i can finally be done with ice fishing for the year, cause im starting to get sick of it

The way it looks we will still be ice fishing for another month yet. Now calling for possibly 15" of snow here this weekend.

You guys kill me!! Here in CT we had our last day a long time ago, I can’t imagine having so much ice for so long, good luck to all of you.

Killing me too, but for the opposite reason. Our 'Spring' is running cold and late; we didn't get any 'March Madness' fishing this year. The Southern Manitoba general season closed April 2 but my local relatively small lake hasn't yet begun to melt ... 36" of good hard ice with a thin layer of slushy snow on top. The new general season* starts May 12.

* Stocked trout waters are open to fishing all year.

I just hope this late late ice doesn’t totally mess up the spawn. I have seen it happen before that because of ice cold water temps into June, the fish did not spawn at all.

I'm hearing reports of die off as well. Some of the smaller lakes in Vilas are reporting winter kill. I love icefishing, but if it means killing off fish, I'd be happy to see this season end.

Yea I love ice fishing as much as anyone also, but enough is enough. Problem is what else is there to do? stare at the boat. I will just keep ice fishing to keep my sanity. Maybe a river trip is in order soon.

same, i think ive redone all of my tackleboxes at least 15 times already, and im currently considering taking up flyfishing just so i have some other stuff to organize in this perpetual winter

Yesterday was my last trip. Today was sposed to be but I talked to my wife and yesterday became my last trip. Had a good year. We have open water in some places, I will start chasing walleyes next weekend. If we don't have a blizzard. Again.

1" today Friday 13th, then 5"-8" tomorrow Saturday, then 1"-3" Sunday. Worst case we get a foot of snow, but you know how that goes could be less or could be more. The lakes are almost now down to bare ice, almost. But now this.

*UPDATE* Went on my sixth last trip this weekend, but this one is officially my last trip because i broke the pin that holds the auger blade onto the auger head and i refuse to buy another one until the ice is gone so i cant go out again

Well we got about a foot of fresh snow on top of a good 24+" of hard ice again. Need to wait for the snow it to melt down a bit again. Going to be a sloppy slushy mess out on the ice now.
