drying out my boots? anyone?
« on: Jan 30, 2006, 12:00 PM »
I have a new pair of lacrosse  ALPHABURLY SPORT SIDE ZIP 1200 gram. They are completely waterproof. Only problem is, when its warm out, they do not breathe at all, and my feet sweat! They get a little damp inside and sooner or later after a 2 day trip, they get cold! Is there any way to dry them out inside? Ive tried newspaper, setting them next to the stove(dont set them too close, or you will get a funny smell in the house ;)) and towels, but it takes a little while. What do you guys do? any tips or tools? Thanks, Spencer

Boot dryer by a company called Peet. Put them on over night and they are dry the next day.

I just tak out the thinsulate inserts and lay it all down next to the boiler- We have radiator heating so you have a large boiler thats pumping a good 18 hours of the day- My boots are dry withing 10 hours all the time. Sticking the inserts back in is easier if you get it going then work your foot in there. Where sneakers with baggies on warm days, whent he sweat starts freezing or the slush gets bad wet sticnky feet ruin the day.

I agree with all of the above replies.  The boot driers work great.  The circulate air into boot, drying them in half the time.  You can get them as plug into the wall or battery.  If you have a Dick's Sporting Goods near you, check them out there.  If not log onto Cabelas as METIPPIN suggests.
Good luck!  It stinks having wet feet.   (no pun intended!)

i bought a very small shop vac at lowes and use it on the blow mode and it works fine. you also have the hose to use with waders. i hang the waders up and tie the hose so the air blows up into the boot. doesn't take long at all, plus there is always others uses for a small vacumn

When your boots aren't soaking wet just damp from sweat silica gel packs work great for taking the moisture out of the boots. Just place the packs in your boots at the end of the day and by morning they should be 99%-100% dry.

Also you can make a boot dryer out of a desk fan and a little pvc pipe.

I wear a sock liner and a good wool sock over them keeps the feet dry and toasty.

At the end of every day out on the boot dryer they go for the next morning out.

Boot dryer by a company called Peet. Put them on over night and they are dry the next day.

That's what I use!!  They are great and because they don'y use heat to dry your boots the dryer will not ruin leather boots!

PEET BOOT DRYER!  I use mine year round, keeps my works boots in good shape and stink free. When I buy a new pair of leather boots, I oil them up good and put them on the dryer, and then I oil them again.  It really soaks in good and the stitching lasts a long time.  Best repeated every month or two depending on use.  I really like how nice a toasty my boots are when I put them on first thing in the morning!

If you don't have access to a boot dryer, take the inserts out and stuff the boots with paper towels...works a lot better than newspaper.  I'll change the paper towels after a couple hours.  Bounty--the quicker soaker upper.   ;D
