What kind of pike is this?
« on: Jan 25, 2018, 05:28 PM »
The first pic is a pike i caught today out of lillinonah, didn’t measure somewhere around 28-30” but has vertical stripes.. first thought it was a musky when i saw it under the ice.. Second picture is another pike i caught years ago but in Zoar, horizontal markings, every other pike i have pictured has the horizontal markings like that one. My assumption was i caught one of the stocked pike the DEP puts into lilli that’s possibly from a different state? Anyone have a clue what the difference is or was that fella just unique?

First picture I’d say tiger musky, the second don’t look like same fish!   Second defiantly a northern I’d say.

Well then that’s my first ever muskie! Ice was perfect 9” or so i didn’t measure.. clear black ice. I first went to candlewood and decided not to go out there cause the wind. Has anyone else caught one out of lilli/zoar? Thought they only existed in this one private lake in CT, ill be going back tomorrow for round 2.

Nice job NEF! If you are targeting them, make sure you have 40 - 60 lb flouro leaders or wire leaders, jaw spreaders and long needle nose pliers. Go get em and keep posting!

They're actually poisonous. They're like Fugu. If you train for years in the art of grass pickerel filleting the meat is delicious, but one slip of the knife and it's the last piece of sushi you'll ever eat.

Lilly had 660 tigers stocked last year and possibly stocked the year before also by the lake lillinonah Authority Northeast fisherman you definitely caught a tiger muskie

That is quite a growth if it was only two years max. Assuming 10 to14" when released.

Thursday is a good enough reason.  I will be excited to chase tigers there.  I know that lake well.
