The fishing was good; it was the catching that was bad.

I just got two of 'em in the mail about a week ago; they are spooled up with 5lb. PowerPro and ready to fight some eyes :P.  Pre-ordered a while back.  I think they are an awesome piece of equipment, if they don't work out, I'll pass them on to someone who will use them.
$$$ don't really have a lot to do with satisfaction for me, I'm looking for quality and I think these reels have it; for my use situation.  I'm sure they are not for everyone.

What kind of rods did you put them on?

Got two of the new 13 Fishing Whiteout 29.5" Medium rods.  They feel really good with these reels, using a "pencil grip" hold.  Well balanced.

Its basically just a fancier inline ice reel.

The only real benefit i can see is the push button freespool.

But you can get that same feature from the 20$ eagle claw inline ice reel.. Thats what made it such a hot reel last year.

For the price of one teardrop, i can equip all my jig rods with the eagle claw reel that does the same thing... Your basically paying for its looks..

How about the retrieve ratio?  Some these guys fishing deep water can really utilize that.  Still like the 13 TearDrop over all the other in-line ice reels that are available right now.  I'm betting one thing - that there will be more and more manufacturers jumping on this wagon and that the prices will be "up" there.  I'm thinking that by January you be able to fine of these reels available from a retailer.

The line retrieval on the EC reel is about 16in. If you add a little backing you can get alot more as well, like all the other inline reels.

And again... 1/6th the price..

Not really comparable - EC has 2.6:1 retrieve ratio with a line capacity od 110 yds. od 2lb.  TD has 6.2:1 retrieve ration with a line capacity of 300yds. of 2lb.  Again, those that fish deep water will enjoy the TearDrops features in these two areas.
I think a more fair comparison of the EC reel would be to 13's 6061 with a 2.7:1 retrieve.  Not sure of the "quality" differences.  I have one of the 6061s from last year and it is nice.  Not comparable to the TearDrop though, in my opinion.
It's not always about $$$ for everyone.  ;)

300yrds is 900 feet.. Thats some serious jigging..

As for retrieve, again, those fly reel type reels retrieve is boosted significantly with backing..

We can just agree to disagree here, but you are getting the same/comparable features out of a 20$ reel that this 120$ reel is offering..

Lol Spider..

I bet you have a better chance of landing her with the $120 dollar reel rather than the $20 reel.

I guess that alone makes it worth it.  :P

Nonono. The point here is to have it on you when you meet her.

Just carry it around with you wherever you go.
