cell phone down the hole
« on: Feb 12, 2010, 02:06 PM »
i leaned forward to see what fish was making a mark on my flasher, and there
goes the phone out of my chest pocket in the hole, i drilled 3 holes all next to
each other an then tried to hook it with a lure, i could see it, i was in 10 ft of
water, i could not get it, so i left went to the hardware store got some realy
long and skinny molding and went home and got my smelt net and went back
and the smelt net was a foot short, by now i am getting pissed, i look down the hole and i can see my phone ringing, i have one of those g'zone water proof phones, so i know if i get it,it will still work, luckily a guy close by fishing, had
electrical tape in his coat pocket, so i was able to break the molding in half and make smelt net longer by taping the molding on it,  after 2 hrs of screwing around
i got my phone back and it still works, what a relief, then i had to mark the hole so nobody steps in it,  im glad that is over   next time i will remember to zip my
pocket          ken

Now I know why I don't answer the cell when I'm fishing ;D

At least you got it back.

I worry about doing that everytime i go out, but i'd hate it even more to drop a set of truck keys down the hole.

I have the same phone there great military addition. I took mine once and put it in a glass of water at a bar and had someone call it. It sat there and rang in the glass. I bought mine thru Verizon.Water, dirt, and drop proof.

I once dropped my phone on the ice 20 feet from the hole....watched it skipp across the ice sliding closer, closer, closer....I thought, "nah, it won't happen"  Plop!  Right down the hole!  I couldn't make that shot if I wanted to!

There is an invisible vortex around every hole drilled in the ice.
Anything of value that can go down a hole will.
I keep my cell phone, keys, etc away from these vortices's.

When I'm on the ice I use my cell phone only when I need to. The rest of the time it is in a ziplock bag which is in a zipped pocket. Then there is my son who spends the whole day texting.  ;D ;)

I too am very careful when using the cell phone around the "invisible vortex" ;D ;).  I always place my truck keys in my bib pocket, zip it and do not open it until I get off the ice.

Oh yea....last week while setting the last tip up, the tip up light fell off the flag, bounced twice and....kerplunk.  I watched it slowly descend to the bottom.  Oh well....I figured better than a cell phone! :)

My friend stood up and his phone bounced once and went down. Such a bummer

I had to laugh, as my nephew lost his down the hole last weekend.  Get one of those big magnets, that you can put a long rope on.  Did you GPS the hole it is in? :)

happened to my buddy about four weeks or so ago he stood up and leaned over the hole and his smokes phone and zippo hit the hole he quick grabbed his smokes but didnt realize the phone fluttering down until it was out of reach. hit the bottom and we watched the fish come to it and check it out as we were calling and texting it from the hut. he had insurance and it wasnt waterproof so we went down the road to the store and he got a new one on an insurance claim the next day

My dad has don that he was fishing a rock pile and bent down to unhook a fish and plop in the water they went he could see them clearly but couldnt reachem. So he finally jigged them up.
