anything white....a white jig is what lots of guys use....yeah and a minnow for bait. Find out where in the water they are cruising. At whiteswan you can see down to 40 ft and see them going by. We always fish the drop

Pilsner, short of knowing what spot to fish, what lure to use, and what bait to bring, what else do you need to know, lol. JK.

What are the conditions like up there now? (as far as snow on the ice and ice thickness) My son and I want to go, but with him being small, I don't want to go unprepared.
Are sleds recommended? Can you drive anywhere without the fear of thin ice etc...?

Unpredictable ice conditions. I've seen some really thin spots very late in the year.  This lake also gets a lot of flood water, particularly years like this with lots of early snow.  You can get around with a truck bud I'd recommend sleds and be very careful. I've seen lots of people stuck and or frozen in over the year. A lot of effort to fish a slow lake with a one fish limit. Not really worth it IMO.

I have fished this lake every winter for the past 3 winters, and do recall some of the slush you mention. I like it there, a good change from walleye and jack.  I just want to know what it is like this year.
