Garmin striker 4
« on: Dec 27, 2019, 10:12 AM »
anyone use their striker 4 on the ice to navigate. I'm thinking about mounting one on the dash of my snowmobile to get out to spots, then using it in the shanty. anyone do this?

I've used it to locate spots I've marked with the GPS, it's very accurate.

You'd be better off mounting your phone to your handle bars.   The Stryker 4 does GPS, but without maps the utility is limited.  If you're just trying to get back to last year's hot spot on Saginaw bay it might be fine, but if you want to run along a depth line or navigate a new lake the stryker won't help much.

Not looking to run depth lines, just want something to get me to some waypoints I've set.

meandcuznalfy, thanks

Your welcome, it'll get back to waypoints for sure pretty easy. I walked right out to my old holes last winter with it, it's a great little unit for the price.

If that's what you want to do,  it'll do it well.  There is a 3d printable handle bar mount for the Stryker 4.

Does any of the screens show the gps, lats and longs?, also, does it show when you set a waypoint? thanks

If you go to user data on the home screen it has all your waypoints in it, here you can look at your points, see coordinates, edit points, add delete points. When you set a waypoint it with the button it shows you a screen that you can edit you need to name your point or it'll just give it a number.

Was fishing in 8-10 fow with 3 feet of weeds I was having wired  IR. But it would come n go almost like bait fish but looked Down hole nota. I guess my main question is does the ducer need to be below bottom of ice?  Or try different settings on unit?  No people close that had a flasher too. ????

Ducer just needs to be close to the bottom of the ice, should clear that up.

FYI @7.6 v the unit will shut down automatically. Can turn it back on but will drain battery fast and shut off.  Just a reminder to charge battery after two days.
