I bought a new Eskimo wide shanty for this season which is awesome but has a really low roof that doesn’t allow for much of a hook set so maybe that’s why I had trouble not burying the hooks in them like I usually could. I only have about 3’ of clearance from my resting hand position to the roof.
Rod tip down… even when making them chase. I reel up as I got them on the run… when they commit… game on. I own a single clam kenai pro and a new otter cabin 2 man. The otter is a bit taller than the kenai and my frabil 2 man that I gave my son. The MH rod loads quick, without the rod bend like the lighter rod will do, prevents swatting the roof during battle. It’s my style, it’s not for everyone.

lol. I’m with you KP. I hook a fish and right to the top it goes. I lose more screwing around with them than snapping the line
I run 6# mainline to 8# flouro leader on Oneida Lake. Very uncommon for me to break line. However, I have snapped rods in the past on hook sets. The 13 fishing Wicked 31” MH rods have performed great for me so far.

I snapped 2 rods last year, never snapped one previously, which is why I went to the MH after KPs recommendation.  I try to keep the tip down but I also catch myself watching the graph instead of my rod tip once the fish is on the bait.  I’m a terrible multi-tasker.  This shanty will help train me to reel down instead of lifting

Freddie, when you set the hook, the fish are already fileted and packaged for the freezer!!! 😂

I add a small micro swivel between the mainline and leader. It helps eliminate line twist.

Lol , make sure you bang there heads on the bottom of the ice just to make sure they are unconscious

I also use a micro for 2 reason 1 for line twist and the other is when the swivel reaches the top. Of ice it’s lift and land

Out of Sylvan yesterday with my buddy.  A bit slow, but managed 2 keeper eyes and 6 nice perch.  Also released two shorts.

That new handle profile is a bit slimmer than the cork. Comfortable fit!!
I have a new combo in the package… pick it up when you’re around. 😎

KP. Good seeing you yesterday. How about that guy spudding 50ft from my shack using 2 hands and slamming hard enough to harpoon a whale. All this while snowmobiles were passing him.  Some people are just special I guess.

The guy on the sled that went in near Chapmans knew full well the lake was open days before since it is in his front yard.  He was OK until he decided to try another spot from last year a little farther out. Decisions decisions decisions. Sleds back together running and only lost $$ and a small jig box luckily.

I watched the FB footage,  looking down the lake you can see another shack , you can also see the difference in the ice in that area

I was able to get on ice 3 times this season, all on different bodies of water, and had excellent success.  Shortest but best ratio of success I’ve ever had. Still hope this is the last year of la Nina. I remember El Niño being better for fishing year round but that was also in the late 90’s when fishing was in general better.

Ouch , I wish I didn’t look but this year looks to be transitioning to an El Niño but hotter than usual and probably more rain… let’s hope for the best

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
