New Years Day conditions report
« on: Jan 01, 2013, 08:07 PM »
This is coming in from the Bear Mountain area of SNY...in the vicinity of Monroe.

Seems like a lot of lakes less than 10 acres or so are good to go. Fished about a 6 acre pond today, 3.5" of junk ice but plenty safe. Looked at a couple of 30 acre size lakes and there was still a bit of open water or some dicey spots. Should be all good by next weekend with the coming cold.

Big stuff like Greenwood is still a ways off.

Caught and released a few bass...8-14" range. Perch and bluegills all day. White crappies too, but all a bit short...like 7-8"

A bit windy, had to set the tip ups right or chase wind flags. Fun 1st day out overall.
