Thanks to some good advice on this thread and couple of tips from other friends we had a nice afternoon on Otisco Lake's north end. Only had 2 flags but I did land my first tiger musky. It had a 3 inch Rapala stuck in its mouth, which I removed from him. I'm sure he will be able to eat a lot better now! Got a few gills and one nice crappie while we sat and waited for flags.

Man, what a mess on the ice! Snow and lots of slush and water on top. I'm glad I had my Kamik rubber boots on. At least three people reminded us that there is a derby next weekend and that we should go sign up. Too bad it's already a busy weekend for me, or I would. Maybe next year for the derby, but I hope to return to the lake soon. I only live 15 minutes away.

PS: DEC ECO was there checking for licenses and to be sure you have your name address and phone # on your tip ups. FYI.

that's a sweet fish!!! Otisco is the only lake i've ever seen the DEC at, why are they at that lake so much?

Its very easy access for the dec....a popular place to fish and a couple of them live close by...

the dec officer helped me pull my sled up before and i seen him picking trash up ! i think he's a pretty nice guy

Trapper it was nice meeting you and talking with you. That slush is real killer stuff. Had the smitty sled but it was still no match for the conditions. Best bet is to travel as lite as possible and becoming one with bucket fishing.
Bigguy. I met your buddy out there but never caught his name. Real nice guy. He told me about the hurting you put on the fish and your pictures confirmed you did!!! I've been fishing inside the pins at night and today for the first time during daylight. You managed to leave 1 crappie behind and about a half dozen gills that were in my opinion way above average for otisco.

I haven't been to Otisco in a two weeks. Are there any reports of unsafe ice - near the west guard rails(footprints) or elsewhere? Stupid slush puttin' a hurtin' on ice everywhere...

Thanks guys ..i wanted to go sunday but when u have a siatic nerve issue one day on that crap was enough..even though i only fished one hole

...budman how dare you take my crappie i lost at the hole..well you only got one outta the 3 i lost at the hole..i agree also the gills i got saterday wete very wrll fed..

...i had my mickey mousr boots on my feet stayed dry..but the slush was bad...and were gettingbdumped on again at least 12 inches more a new snow ..and still comming

...gonna be a really hard drag wed...im glad we have alot a ice or it wouldnt last long with all the snow trapper no fish or u either

yes it has been moved to feb 28 and march 1,to much snow and slush ,no need for a hart attack to catch a fish

If someone had nuts to just take a sled out by that first Red house by guardrail do a bunch of riding around to make paths and get trailered before the cops came for trespassing. That would help things out

Will do. Heard a rumor we are having rib eye sandwiches among other stuff for lunch. Stop over to my shack for breakfast. Last year I made breakfast sandwiches and handed them out the window. ( walk up window on the ice)

I went out yesterday that slush is no joke. Unless you have boots up to your knees don't even think about it. Fishing was slow and I got food poisoning from DR cheesesteak sandwhich. They won't be getting business from me ever again

SUCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and I found someones 10' auger hole with my foot under the snow still open(dry foot still love my mucks)...watch where u walk everone

Hopefully this freeze coming up will make a crunchy lid for us to walk on. Seems like everywhere is a slushy wet mess. Perhaps less traffic and more fish...
anyone know how the shoreline is at footprints?

...im sure its just as sloppy there as it is on the whole lake...maybe a little less ice than near the dam
