Meathunter, I think the store you refer to is D&R Convenience (315)636-7721. Give em a ring and ask, they used to carry them and some tackle. Good food there too. If not, Ryfuns @ the campground further down might have them in (315) 636-9925. I haven't been there yet. The Mobile Gas station on Seneca Turnpike and 174 has a bait vending machine in the back parking lot that stocked crabs, nightcrawlers, salted minnows etc.

Any ice forming yet?  I am new to the area and hoping to catch some browns outta this deep vast lake?!
Welcome Salmonslayer.
I wish you a lot of luck catching any browns as they are very scarce, in my opinion. I really believe that as soon as the browns (and Landlocks) get stocked they become Laker candy. I watched DEC put in 9500 9-10" browns one afternoon most of them they just dumped at Public Landing. For days afterward you could see a cloud of them out in front of PL milling around just like they do in the hatchery. Easy pickings for the hungry lake trout! Nothin' but candy! Very few get caught anymore. As many as they stocked for 5-6 years now, they should be getting caught like they did back in the eighties.

Everyone who is PM'ing me about bait availability- Tom & Kelly's Store, Corner of Rt 20 and Rt 80, Springfield Center (I have NO affiliation with the owners) has their shiners in and ready to sell. They also sold suckers last year (but not yet). Spikes and mousey's he expects will be there supposedly today but tomorrow for sure according to the owner Tom this morning. Also they have tackle, Non Ethanol gas, beer, coffee, snacks.
Hope this helps everyone that is searching for bait for Cando, Youngs and the rest of northern Otsego County.

Thanks for that info Jim! Agree with you on the browns and especially now with the dire situation of the sawbelly population, I can't see it turning around anytime soon unless a dramatic shift occurs with the forage base. At least the lakers will be eating good for a while!  :)

Will be seeing you soon I hope!

Does Otisco have a plentiful smelt population?
I remember back 20 years fishing for perch on the south end I would catch quite a few.

Barely safe ice near the dam. Just keep driving past the park and you'll see cars near the guard rail up on the north end.

Just a heads up to everyone at Otisco. Watch your gear!  I left my lunch on the back of my truck this morning by the gaurd rail. I knew I left it but wasn't worried nor willing to walk back to get it. When I walked off this afternoon, it was gone. Lol. Someone stole my lunch. I really don't care, but  I'm just glad it wasn't my sonar or camera. Karma is a bit@#!  I hope it's your sonar that gets stolen as pay back.

little heads up ,there are a few neighborhood dogs that consider lunches left out as fair game......as  fair  as  gear  of  course  keep it locked  up  ...all it takes  is one  dishonest person ...as  far as the  fisherman  I never fished  in a nicer  area  with people more  willing tto help I blew a  tranny line  few  years ago and  couple  guys  went  got me  fluid  and  wouldn't  even take a  cup of coffee .....
