There were a couple of guys fishing down on Case Lake last Friday (braver than me).  Catch bass there on the fly all summer but through the ice mainly the stocked trout and calico's

Saw the shanty my buddy and  I got ready and went out. Only to turn around again. Had a long rope trekked out about 60 yard from public beach. Would have fished on a bucket with one person but wasn't safe for two people in a shanty. Ice was 3 or 4 inches of crappy white. Some spots had another 3 inches crap on top which my buddy fell through. Was kinda funny but not safe for more than one light person. Very little snow on top I'd wait another day at least. This weekend would probably be fine.

I've only been ice fishing for a few years. but do you guys think a small trout lake would be ok to do this weekend? its got maybe 4 inches of snow on it if that. average depth around 6-8 feet. I would think it would be alright to fish. Still gonna check it saturday. but would like to hear opinions from those a little more experienced than me.

No idea, really. Everything is screwy this year with the cold then the warm/rain.

Fished New Albion today for a few hours. There was anywhere from 2 to 4 1/2 inches of black ice and then another 1 to 3 inches of white ice. There was Some slushy areas and snow up to 4 inches deep in some places. We caught a few bass and a couple gills. No luck with trout. Had a few tip ups out and no luck. Other than that it was a decent day of getting warmed up for good ice. Ice conditions varied and with this warm weather coming tomorrow will have to see how it holds up.

Pretty sure I either talked to you near the truck or you were one of the three guys on the ice when I pulled up. I don't think tomorrow will do much to it

Also with Saturday and Sunday night below freezing Monday should be fine. I love hitting the trout through there

Yeah you must have talked to my buddy. I was out on the ice. I don't think tomorrow will do to much to it except make it a slushy mess. Saturday and Sunday shouldn't be bad days and Monday it will be good to go for sure. I also haven't had any luck with the trout through the ice. Not sure if I'm doing something worn or haven't figured it out yet but I'll keep trying.

Saturday during the day it'll freeze and then Saturday night and then early Sunday. And my best day for trout was when I ran outta waxies and started using meal worms. Couldn't keep them off. I saw all 3 of you guys huddled around each other and he told me roughly 6 inches. Where was the weaker ice at that you found?

Also depends on how many trout were kept by fisherman in the fall. I usually just get gills there. A random perch or crappie once in awhile. Catch more bass than I do trout there. But I'd love to hook into one of the 7+ lb breeders they put in this fall!

When you say 2-4.5" of black ice and then 1-3" of white ice do you mean all in one spot? Like was there 6 inches everywhere you checked just with different kinds of ice? Or were there some spots with 2" black and 1" ice. I'm trying to get out Sunday. I'd feel safer knowing there was 6" total

In one spot there is black ice then white ice on top of it all of varying thicknesses. Some spots had 6 inches of ice. As we headed towards the dam it was noticeably thinner so we didn't venture to far that way. I'm just hoping it holds for Sunday.

Were the spots with good ice right out in that little bay by the point? I'm checking Sunday and I think itd be fine. Just melt the snow on the ice. I think it'll refreeze Saturday and be good by Sunday. I'll be checking.

Trying to get out Sunday. I think the little bit of snow on it will save it! Hopefully if doesn't start to dig in the ice sheet. It's gonna start raining when tips are around 35 and then turn to snow and get into the 20's. Whatever I've/slush melted should refreeze. But of course will still spud out and give reports as well.
