Tony, the guy who caught it is a friend of a guy I fish with here at home! The fish reportedly is 47" !!!

MK

This is the pike I was referring to (as shared with me). Obviously not the same fish in your pic Tony! I was told this fish was entered but I can't verify. Quite a whopper!

For the guys complaining about fish beinG killed, that is why we have size and creel limits. As long as they are legal fish, it is none of your business what people do with them.

Sounds like some real nice pike.
Well said JJ. Agree with you completely. I swear we wouldn't have half the problems we have in this country right now if people would stop worrying about what everyone else is doing and take care of themselves!

We travel to Schroon Lake a few times a year to fish the lake. Beautiful spot and some darn nice fish in there! This was my first year fishing the ice derby since  I was a rugrat and that's the biggest fish I've ever pulled out of there! Also got my first Lake Trout :)

For the first time in a number of years there are no sketchy ice conditions for this weekend's Schroon Lake Derby.  Deep winter conditions here with 20" to well over 2ft of ice.  Trucks, SUV's, Quads and snowmobiles routinely seen on Schroon lately.  Saw some pics of a really nice salmon as well as some nice lakers caught last few days, before the winds.  As usual stay clear of all incoming brooks and the inlet.

That's great news and agree , ice conditions are a non issue.  Some years have been struggle.  Is the first in memory held in February instead of March ?

Now what about snow conditions.. 7 days ago there was 5-6" snow on the ice. I'm sure schroon got an additional over the weekend.  Did the wind blow off yesterday and today  ?
Another round of snow expected  through Thursday.
With my estimation,  ice is not an issue but could possibly be facing 12 plus inches of snow on the lake by Friday  ?

March 1st is Friday, so still in March.  We didn't get much snow this weekend, about an inch of sleet, then drizzle, light freezing rain, then winds and blowing snow.  Only expecting inch or 2 Wed night, more to the south, and the weekend storm should be further south, so snow on the lake should be no issue. Near zero last night, below zero expected tonight, so any slush will be locked up.  Best conditions I can remember in a long time.

Saratoga south to Albany expects 4-6", they say more  further in hills and lake effect but they are weather people,  lol.
For sure conditions were great last Tuesday.  My ATV did bog a little on drifts  , just an fyi.

Good luck and everyone have a great time.

Any news on fish being weighed in? 2 small Lakers caught for us on tip ups. Not marking really any fish jigging.
