Ice Helix 7 GPS
« on: Feb 13, 2019, 10:54 AM »
I have a Ice Helix 7 around 2 years old.

I have something weird happening when out in the boonies (i.e. no cell service) with battery usage. It seems that battery life will go from a good charge to drained in a very short time. like 15 minutes. It only has happened in very remote locations.

Upon doing some research, I think it may have something to do with GPS not being able to connect. I do adjust the brightness and back-lighting when using.
I would think a battery issue, but it only happens in remote locations. When i am fishing in the metro areas it never happens.

Anyone else experience this?
Is there a way to turn off GPS?

I contacted Hummingbird chat and they were no help at all.

Thanks!
Seth

The point of GPS was to work independent of cell service, I thought.

Is your helix an “n” model (network)?  I’m just thinking that if you are in an area with no cell service that you are shutting off your phone and the helix is trying to connect to the phone?  I’m guessing on a lot of it but your gps should not have any bearing on batt life.

Turn off any views that show the map or gps view?
Don't fall in. Unless it's a big one.
