http://aksalmonbear.com/product/ak-fish-trap-base-model-black-base-orange-rod-holder/
Just ordered a couple of these for Christmas presents. One for the wife and one for my stepson.
I first saw them at the Anchorage Alaska Sportsmans show. It was springtime so I figured I would wait for winter to get a couple of them to test.
The seemed much more robust than my JawJacker.
The base is more solid.
I am going to try them out and will report back with the results. So far I think these are going to work great and the quality seems really good.
I haven't tested them on the ice yet but I sure will after Christmas.
Supposedly a 90% lip hook rate.
Designed and assembled in Alaska.
Anyone use these who can post up a report?

Nice design with a simple trigger.          ;)2

It's the better 'mousetrap' without tension on the rod.

I hope so!
I can't wait to try them out.
Especially with my stepson who gets bored easily and is often not paying attention.
This might be the ticket for him.

Quite! and I was tempted. But then I remembered that I built one last year a bit similar to the JJ that I hardly ever used. Somehow couldn't be bothered setting it up. A rod balanced on a holder seemed just fine. A JJ and sich would seem to take a bit of the fun out of hooking 1 and reeling it in. We are just allowed 2 rods. I guess we could have 3 or 4 I'd be more likely to use 1.

Keep yer stick on the ice!

I suppose I could build one if I had a wood working shop in my garage.
But I have a garage with a jig making business in it.
So for me purchasing these ready made just makes sense.
They appear to be very rugged and set up well.
I guess after Christmas I'll post up a report good or bad.

We are only allowed 2 rods here also, unless you are fishing for pike or burbot
Why do things today that can be put off till tomorrow, or next week???? Let's go Ice-fishing!!!!

The way I see it these are perfect for areas that allow two rods.
If the fishing dies off I can set up the Salmon Bear rod holder then begin hole hoping.
If the fish return to the original spot then the hook will be set and I can return to reel em up.
If not I know they likely haven't returned and can continue moving around until I find them again or they do return to spot A.
Same concept as using a tip up but these set the hook and allow me to use a rod to reel up the fish instead of hand over hand.

old thread but worth a bump,I think if you added an ICE STOPPER BOBBER TO ANY "HOOK SETTER" device it would work awesome. Here's a link  below.

Well I've used these several times and I'm hooked on them
They are a great design and work great.
Lip hooks every time.
Easy to set up and use.
Works with any rod and much easier on the rod as the rod isn't used as the spring.
I'm sold on this product for sure.
