Wow There was a TV show a couple of years ago that had tape on the Red River in Minnesota during the winter that showed the same behavior by the catfish. Maybe thats why they can be so hard to find in the winter.

They were mostly Flats. Reminds me of the walleyes you'll see sitting dead still on the bottom of the tanks at Bass Pro Shops. I have a feeling this is what they're doing sometimes when the bite is hot, then suddenly it turns off and the fish seem to disappear from the graph  ;)

That's a great pic.  At first I thought the video was of Wels catfish in Europe and made to get people to think it was in the US.

I didn't know flatheads had a mottled look like that, but then again I've never seen one in person.

they are all over ohio. They seem to live in large deep rivers. Seen a lot caught over 50 lbs. They get real big.

So are these things a cat and do they eat like a regular channel cat?  I have never fished for cats and don't know much about them but they do look to grow to be pretty large!!

They are catfish, and they prefer live bait, such as bluegills or bullheads as apposed to cut-bait. Yes, they get large. I think the world record is over 120 lbs.

Or larged treble hooks jigged really fast close to the bottom when you find them dormant like that.  :woot:

has anybody tried stink baits or liver/meat through the ice for cats? I have only tried minnows.

I tried rotten chicken liver/hearts/gizzards and got nothing. i think it is even too stinky for them!
