I just moved to the area last year, grew up over by Antigo and moved back to Wisconsin after 18 years in PA. Sure did miss Wisconsin, don't know how good you got it until it's gone. Don't have real good knowledge of this area yet but I'm learning.

Arrowhead is actually on my list of new lakes to try this year - right in my backyard, and I never have fished it! That and Brandy too. Do you ever get up this way to fish?

Just retired last April and going to get back into ice fishing this year. It's either that or go nuts sitting around the house. Found this site by accident and now my better half says I'm addicted. Have found a lot of good info on what I need to purchase as all my old equipment is either shot or lost.

it's a big , deep (100ft) lake with an amazing amount of structure to it and the signs and the books all say its got trout in it..so my buddy & i was thinking of trying that out if the Rainbow wasnt producing.......
i heard there's a state forest campground thats open year 'round on one end and you could set up "base camp"

I think some of the other lakes around that area are better odds of fish catching.

Terry392, A couple of places I like to take my kids are Lake Lee in Millston. A small lake but great for panfishing. And another spot is Potters flowage at Merle Lamberdt park.

Both lakes are very close to your location.
thanks,know where bothe are use to fish Lake Lee a lot but havent in few years now and I camp and fish out to Lambert Park and fish off Larb hill road as well.just hope get good ice soon,seen few guys out on Lake Arbutus last weekend but didnt venture out.thanks for imfo. :tipup:

The north weeds are supposed to be good late ice, cause it's shallower, I would think it would produce year round. Alot of the ice fishing seems to happen in Brice Prairie, northern bays/sloughs of Onalaska. Let me know what yo think.

This past saturday i went out on just a small local lake and it did nothing but crack and make ice. it was fricken cold. we have been catching quite a bit. hope everyone catches the big one soon....

Love it here. I have the best of both states to fish here. Anyone looking to come this way and wants to fish, my new clam trap 2 x is always open for fellow ice fishermen. Had a great weekend of fishing a weekago last Friday. But warm spell up here has made ice unsafe. Oh well at least i got 3 days of on ice time so far. And some. nice gills and craps..Even have 2 gills i put in freezer to be mounted. :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup:

Don't really care what I fish for just like to get out and catch something this winter. Grew up in Minnesota and fished everyweekend so I am going through withdrawl since I have moved from my local lakes.

I don't know, I don't get to fish much open water other than Voyager park in the spring. Girlfriend isn't too happy about the new hobby but I blame her for living in Shawano. I varmint hunt, regular fish, deer hunt, duck/goose hunt, and now ice fishing. Heck I may even start trapping.

I want to fish walleye and pike primarily.

Truck has been wet twice, 4wheeler once, stepping in hole's, hooks in fingers, falling down allot.
One night after packing up, my partner took off on his snowmobile like a mad man heading towards a light on shore
he thought was the landing and it was actually the light on the dam for the flowage good thing he turned around to see why I wasn't following him.

Nothing ever too serious, we just toned it down over the years, seems like we make bad decisions when we drank to much.

We also take our fishing a little more seriously than we used to.

Older and wiser I guess, but we let her snap once the fish are cleaned..

what ice do you hit down there? Buddy and I tried Neshonoc once when we were in college and got skunked - heard they have a derby on there (or used to) but we couldn't seem to find any good fish.
We kept to the Sippi backwaters after that - much better success

Not sure where you're gettin' yer numbers from GF. According to your own DNR MN is only at about 12K.

Although it may come as a surprise to some people in Wisconsin, they are not the best in EVERYTHING. ::)

If we use Wisconsin’s lake database and apply the same 10-acre standard as Minnesota, Wisconsin has only 5,898 lakes.

Based on the federal data:

— Minnesota has 124,662 lake/pond features, while Wisconsin has 82,099.

— Minnesota has 8,784 lake/pond features with a name, while Wisconsin has 5,481.

One thing I do know: MN has better musky fishing, on the whole, than WI. Also generally better walleyes too. I know the muskies benefit from long enlightened management. If you are feeling adventurous, fishinator, you might want to hop a littler further north for some real fishing.

You would be warmly welcomed (at least in the non-thermal sense, otherwise we are colder than Wisconsin). Bring a warm coat. If you like football instead of fishing, Wisconsin is the right place to be.

I have never fished in Wisconsin, I just read a lot of the posts on the board. I am in the process of planning a trip to the Onalaska area mid February.

I have fished L.O.T.W. once. Stayed in a sleeper shack. Very friendly people and a beautiful area.

We do Bears fans in WI. ;)2 Could do a lot worse. Queens fans are insufferable >:D :whistle:

So Onalaska. Thinkin' big river backwaters... I could even be pulled to do that. Certain times and places great tippy fishing for awesome pike too.

I thought I was late gettin' started at ice fishing at 26 (now 65) but you got me way beat. Tip 'o the hat for taking the leap! Plenty of great folks here from all over with lots and lots of great information for newbies and old hands alike.

Do visit your profile and enter a location that will appear by your handle when you post. That helps folks know about where you're at so they can understand your questions or comments in a geographical context. Not looking for a street address, just something general to get an idea.
