Your opinion

If you could use live bait would you still jig.  I always used tip ups back in PA with a nice shiner on the hook.   So I've never really jigged a whole lot never had to.  So if you could use live minnows would you or is jigging really that good.

I live in Pa and as you know we are limited to five devices.  I set up the tip-ups and also jig, helps pass the time on slow days.  If I'm getting lots of flags I won't jig and use another tip-up.  I've had days that I got nothing on tip-ups and lots on jigging and the other way around.  It can't hurt to jig and you can get a lot of fish doing it if you have the right jig and are in the right spot.

I do the same thing in wisconsin. we can only use 3 devices so i ususally do 2 tip ups and a jigging rod. unles the panys are relly biteing then I would switch to 2 jigging ods and ont tip up.

X2 I usually use two tip ups and a jig pole if I am planning on fishing one lake.  If I am running and gunning, ( scouting) I will go light,  and just jig with one pole.

I usually only use 1 jig pole sometimes a deadstick or 2 depending on the bite
A bad day of fishin is still better than a good day at work!!

Years ago I would set out the 5 allowed tip-ups and rarely jig. Now it's mainly jigging and a couple of tip-ups usually. Occasionally I'll put out all 5, but it tends to limit your mobility.

Since we can only have 2 lines in AK. I usally have one dead stick (like a tip up) and jig the other. I like to try and stay engauged with actively jigging to bring fish in. I do use bait and tip some jigs with bait, however I have not used any live bait. Not sure that you can in AK?

Once you take up jigging, watching for flags back in PA will never be the same.  Catching 20lb lakers on a 36'' jig pole is awsome.  Good luck this winter it won't be long :)

That's because you don't know how to use one.

When the jig pole light bulb illuminates for you, You wont be able to put down a jig pole.

I would do the same as Jedi one jig rod and one tip-up.
I don't think we have to worry though. AK will likely never allow live bait in fresh water.

When you sit around and use tip ups this is what you do. Eat donuts.

When you use a jigging rod this is what happens. ;D
