Walked out on Bowdish yesterday, a tad sketchy with thickness but would be fishable. Waterman looks good on a drive by, but no traffic out there yet. If Temps hold, by the weekend I expect Northern RI to be able to take some Ice Traffic. I'll spud Bowdish tonight and give a quick report tomorrow.
-
I live on ponaganset res, most likely fishable by the weekend as well. I have never fished bowdish, is it true there’s pike.
My old man fished a tournament there years ago and swears he caught a massive pike rod and reel. Thought the closest place from w Glocester to catch pike was watermans.
-
Thanks for the update!
I will be out somewhere both saturday and sunday. Not sure where, but I will definitely be ice fishing.
-
Good to Hear...Anyone been by Wilson's?
-
Pike In Bowdish...Not that I'm aware of, however anything is possible. Someone could have slipped some in with out DEM knowing about it. It's pretty shallow so I'm not sure they would necessarily do well. seems to me Pike lakes need a bit of depth to keep them cool in the heat of the summer. I do know there are some VERY large Picks in there. Not many but there are some large ones.
-
Thanks for the info, I kind of suspected large pick. My dads a summer tournament bass fisherman, so pike really isn’t on his radar. Guess I’ll stick to the regular holes.
Thanks again

Hammer4,I too fish/icefish on Ponagansett since my close friend lives on the lake.I think I may have met you before but not sure.If you see a red shanty set up stop by and say hi.I'll be out there saturday if ice permits..Pike may have found their way into Bowdish but I've never seen or caught one there.
-
I’ll keep an eye out for the red shanty, I’m usually in a blue shanty lol on the north side of the pond near Gold Mine. Thanks for the invite , good luck out there
-
welcome to ice shanty hammer4
-
Welcome hammer 4. This weekend and until further notice all of RI should be good to go soon by next weekend!!!!
-
Northern RI should be all set this weekend and next weekend the 26th/27th all of RI should be safe early next week temps dropping to single digits at night!!! Bring on the COLD!!!!
The Mup

3-4 inches all around where I spudded. If night temps hold below freezing the rest of the week I suspect early day fishing will be good for ice conditions. Might get sketchy late Saturday if rain and 40's come in. Just be careful.
-
Looking good for Saturday indeed...NO RAIN
-
Sunday's warm rain will just smooth things over come monday.
-
I'd love to make the trip down somewhere on Saturday. I'm definitely going, just don't know where yet (MA or RI).
-

This is True...High for Monday only in the 20's.

I'm going to give Bowdish a run right down at my place over the weekend. I've fished the spillway up at the west end of the lake twice last season (deepest part) not a flag. I'm fishing the causeway end down from my place on Saturday. Possible into the evening as I know there are some pretty good sized Cats in the lake if you hit them. Plenty of hornpout too. (Never caught them through the ice though). If anyone one is out and see's me on Bowdish stop in. I'll be down near Rte 44 causeway. Just down the hill from Cady's Tavern. Black Jet Sled flying an Ice Shanty flag!
-
Thanks for the update.
I checked one of my local spots in RI and to my surprise it had 3" of solid black all the way out to about 50' and the entire place was frozen over. I did not go any farther than that. Should be good for the weekend.
-
It’s out there !!!! Have to be careful and use your spud. Be safe.
-

Went by Johnson’s this morning, all locked up and saw one lonely guy out set up on woods cove, telephone exchange still looked a little sketchy. Also went by sandy bottom bait , not sure what’s going on there because it was closed, hope not for good. Will try and call tomorrow. Thanks for all welcomes, have fun and be safe.

6 inches solid black ice on Wilson's Saturday. We had 2 quads and a side bye. Fished with 8 or 9 guys, Tons of Flags, just not on my tilts. Only got 3... but all were nice Bass.
-
Got 2 hours in on Bowdish on Monday right in front of the house still haven't found a fish yet...Pretty damn cold I must say. I did bag out Sunday.... Lost power so had more stuff to do during the storm than I thought.
-
Fished Bowdish Saturday within sight of the the house. Set 3 traps while I did some work on may breakwater walls. couple bait flags but no fish. I'm starting to warm up to the 2X4 idea of clearing the weeds......Hmmmm.
-
I'm starting to warm up to the 2X4 idea of clearing the weeds......Hmmmm.
That caught my eye as well. I wonder if an oar might be even more effective? ??? Then again, not much is as inexpensive as a 2x4.
-
Ohh Good one I have a set in my Boat shack. The "Ash Wind" as we used to refer to them from my sailing days. Good One Eiderz I'll use that. May have to get a bigger auger as I have a 6". an 8 would give me a little more swing with it. Thanks !!!
-
I love rowing. I'll need a new pair of oars for the drift boat soon, time to stop at Shaw and Tenney this summer.
-
I grew up on the coast of Maine and the best fishing platform I ever used was and old wooden rowboat with a sculling pocket. Takes some practice to get the hang of it but man you can get some places and fish standing up.....
-
Only sculling I've done is duck hunting, it definitely takes practice. And you need to decide, inside or backside cup of the oar, wrist or arm motion. Big arguments to be had. ;) Did quite a bit of poling for fish on shallow flats and to hunt railbirds in the marsh.

The railbirds have me interested.
-
The railbirds have me interested.
They're quirky little birds. You only get a few favorable high tides which coincide with the migration each year so it's a hit or miss thing. Very hard work poling.
-
The weather report is awesome the next few days.....single digits at night. There should be some great ice for the weekend.
-
Agreed. Looking at options that do not normally exist.
-
Waterman has tightened up along the edges considerably (by sight at least.) I suspect most of Northern RI looks pretty good after the last couple days. 1 degree yesterday morning, 3 degrees today.
-
Heading up to the Ponagansett area now! Tight lines guys!
-
Getting out today. Just not sure where, so many places right now locked up. Nice day of fishing and then pats tonight... Should be a good day ;D
-
Not a bad day on Ponaganset today and seemed to a decent amount of people fishing.
-
Any word on ice condition in the smithfield area?
-
Still 6-7 on Wilsons
-
Are the edges locked up at Wilson's?
-
I guess as long as we don't get too much rain we still have a little to work with
-
Waterman still has some juice. I suspect plank and spud for the weekend and it would be fishable. Edges still look pretty tight to shore on the rte 44 access side.
-
Good to hear. Was there last Friday. Edges were great but there were a couple basketball court sizes open spots and was afraid they would have spread.
-
On Waterman - I can only view it from the drive by but the ice is starting to get plenty white so suspect some soft spots in moving water or submerged springs.
-
Anybody get out today?
-
Any more current updates? Have Tuesday off and was originally planing a day trip to western mass or Maine but with the snow coming that afternoon i dont wand to be caught 2 hours from home. What are the chances i could get on watermans? or stump?
-
Waterman drive by report. Edges are unsafe out to about 12' there is a very large open spot dead in the middle. Looks like unless we get another stretch of cold weather Waterman is pretty close to toast for this season.
-
Wilson's had 8" - 10" of ice on Sunday. About 20 to 25 people and like 4 Quads. Should still be good. Edges were fine.
-
Bowdish is still pretty tight from my front window but REALLY noisy as the water is rising. edges are really shaky.
-
RGIII,
We were out on Wilson's Sunday, also...we were part of that big crew. Largest bass was 3.7 lbs.
-
So was I..I had the Dickie Suit with the blue hoodie. I had the 2 pounder before that 3.7 came through the ice.
-
Think I might hit wilsons or something in that neck of the woods Sunday if conditions are decent. Have some lost time to make up for. Good job getting out there guys
-
RBIII,
I was fishing a hundred yards or so, south of you guys. I walked over with my daughter and a buddy.
-
Anyone been by Barney's in Lincoln???
-
Did anyone get out in the Burrillville / Gloucester area this past weekend and/or does anyone have any updated ice conditions for the same? Hoping to get out this coming weekend on Wilson's.
-
Watermans is pretty open in the middle and along the edges on Rte 44. Bowdish suprisingly still has a pretty good batch of center ice, edges are sketchy. They closed the spillway so it's refilling for the spring. Not sure north of me. Like Wilson's etc.
-
Ok thanks, RIMainuh.
-
Access at Wilson's is a little iffy. The edge at the ramp is best on the left side. Still good ice once you get out to it.
-
Edge should be getting better, dam has been opened up to lower water level . So iffy edge should be disappearing at Wilsons.
-
Thanks guys...good to hear. Hope to see you out there this weekend.
-
Anyone check Barney's yet? Probably gonna check tomorrow after work.
-
I checked out a few central, north central ponds and the ice has taken a beating for sure. Not just edges but very unstable ice. If you go searching, use your noggin. These next few days will not help either. NORTH.
-
As of Today... Waterman's is toast If you decide to fish it, use a kayak.
-
Anyone getting out this weekend?
-
Yes, hopefully tomorrow on Wilson's.
-
I'm out this weekend o fishing for me.... :(
-
Freakin rain gonna screw it up because the temps gonna drop next week
-
Checked Wilson's boat ramp...edges are locked up, looks good for tomorrow. Hope to see you out there.
-
Wide Open Waterman.
