completely worth it!!!    if i can go this long without breaking one, it says something. freakin things are impervious!

use an empty chew can

two problems i had when i tried that years ago

a.  no matter how hard you clean, that tobacco smell just does not come out, and it seems like fish don't care for wintergreen flavored maggots.

b. the cans shatter in the cold and can be hard to open with numb fingers.

They wont insulate as well either .

Small bait pucks are around $3 each but you buy them in two packs. I have 6 bait pucks and they are worth it IMO.

I use the bottles that salmon eggs come in, I also picked up some similar containers that are shorter and wider for $.75, probably like a puck. They both work great!!!!!!

I got 2 bait pucks for $6.99 so I would have paid more for the chew can... Especially since I don't chew.

OH YES! ... Bait Pucks are worth more than $3 each for me.

Two for waxies, one for white spikes, one for red spikes, one for mousies, one or two for spawn sacs, and one I have the little tiny hole "welded" shut on for wigglers. I've also used the watertight one for putting a couple of small emerald shiners in to go hole-hopping for perch and crappie. My pucks are color-coded and labeled.

Anyone with a hockey stick take a slap-shot at one yet?? I'm betting they'd handle a game or two.

just got  2 small and one large..  loved them. insulates so it doesn't freeze and I am not chasing the bait tops all over the ice. I bought a large one also and have 500 spikes in it in the fridge. ohh and the best part is you wont crush it in your pockets and have a pocket full of spikes/waxies and sawdust :)

You can get them from a IS site sponsor even cheaper. I got one pair of the smaller ones for $4.95 and one large one for $5.95. Find them here:

I have one.. still haven't used it yet.  I keep forgetting to bring that and a couple other new ice fishing upgrades.  I'm just so use to taking the basics out that I don't think of all the new upgrades that would make my trip that much more enjoyable.
