Unbelievable Catch!!
« on: Feb 15, 2008, 04:38 PM »
You guys aren't going to believe this, but I was fishing today and ilikepike was messing with his tipup after sounding out his hole, his line got wrapped around his spool and tangled or something, and his sounder was dangling like 2 feet under the ice in about 30' of water, and all the sudden he's like dude I got a fish on, and ending up landing a 5lb laker off of his sounder! He said this is the second time that he's had a laker on off of his sounder, but he actually got this one..

Yeah I have had it happen a couple times but I have never iced one, fought one for awhile but, well,,, put it this way he kept the sounder.

I think it's hysterical.

whats a sounder?

Lead weight used to check depths under your hole, they usually have a rubber or plastic hot orange coating, all the ones I have are anyway and they have a clip soldered to them so you can attach to your hook.

I caught a large mouth on the drop weight about 6 years ago.  It is a real shocker.

Where's that smiley " this thread is worthless without pics " LOL.... I've heard of it happening and I've even had perch follow it up if it was one of those fancy hot colored ones. Now I just use homemade ones

I used the orange lead clip on to find bottom of each pole to set the depth from the bottom. And this yr I bought a camera. I have notice lots of time when I dropped in down, fish will come in and check it out. But never had any thing hit it. So I do believe it happens. Lots of times when nothing is bitting, I will drop it down to see if i can attract fish....Never thought of putting a hook on it, may have to do that.

I had a depth finder clipped to my genz bug four years ago.  Dropped it down and was setting bobber when a 19" walleye took 'the bait'.  First walleye I ever caught through the ice.  Not sure why I bother with minnows ???

Fishing should be the exercise of your skills- and its rewards the places it brings you to

never heard of catching anything on a depth weight, but how many times have you seen on the aqua view that the fish are interested in the tiny lead sinker you add to the line on a tiny jig?
