I would get a reel that can hold a minimum of 400 yards of 10lb mono.

What the heck is he fishing for...tuna?

400 yards of line is a bit overkill isn’t it? Half that is more than ample, not to mention a lot cheaper! I’d be more inclined to spend the extra $$$ on a better reel with a good drag system like the President. MYO

yes he is fishing for tuna-sized pike in the mighty Braddock Bay of New York!!!

seriously though, he was given a suggestion of a Pflueger President reel, which retails for $50-60 depending on size. that reel is too expensive for him, so he's going with the Pflueger Trion, which retails for $43, regardless of size, on their website.

For every single question, there's been legit answers met with silly responses. it's getting crazy.

20-25 for most ice fishing needs with a pflueger
that translates to a 500-1000 in most other brands

Get a size 20 or 25 depending on what you are fishing for.

Plueger trion 25 is a good size.  I own many of these exclusively for ice fishing.  Load it up pline cx premium.  4 lb or 6lb. Whatever you want. They're nice reels and the line is very strong.

I use a lot of the 25 and 30 size in Pflueger/Shakespeare reels and the 1000 to 2500/3000/4000 size in the Shimano reels.

I may have an overkill in the reel as far as which one I'm using for ice fishing, but that is my choice.  I did start with the bare cheapest of reels like the Shakespeare Alpha XT reels, they are graphite body reels.  Cheap and functional for what I used them for.

I catch most everything from sales as I’m constantly surfing and I’m cheap 😉
I have many stores set up on the phone that let me know when sales pop ,
Trions work fine as I’ve owned 20s and 30s
I just prefer the presidents and paid less

I recommend Shimano, I use the 500 to 1000 size.

Sedona's are excellent but if you wanna go all out find a C14+ 1000 or wait for the Vanford 500 or 1000

I will be picking up a Vanford 1000 before winter gets here.

before we get our shorts tied into a knot, let's hear from the OP as to what he is fishing for and what he expects out of the reel. You guys are all going half cocked without knowing anything other than he's looking to get a new reel.

I use power pro and fireline except for flat fish  , I fish warm so ice lines are not necessary

Fishing for everything, a medium power reel will do the most.  That's basically the 30 size reel or 3000 size equivalent.
