Was -48 with windchill two weekends ago when we were at the shack. Been averaging -30 for last few weeks until today. Above normal temps in the forecast will be a nice change fishing around 0

I think alot of you guys are talking wind chill temps and not actual air temps throwing out -20s and -30s.

There's a big difference there.

Here's a little trick to estimate the temp in from Celcius to Fahrenheit. Just multiply it by 2 and add 32.
If you want to go from Fahrenheit to Celcius the subtract 32 and the divide by 2.
So for my example 4 F - 32 = -28 / 2 = -14 C.
That's cold in PA. :o

Wow saskbucks, you got guts or are nuts! ;D

Depends who you talk to.  I say part guts part nuts!
Get outside.  It does a body and mind good!

-40 upstate Wisc. We had a huge bonfire. 10 tip ups per person. The old timers let us kids catch all the northerns, they stayed by the fire and drank brandy. We came home with a bunch of fish.
Fish hard, or go home.

Ive fished lots of days with 40+ mph wind and below zero. those days are misable but i couldn't think of something better to do then go icefishing.
Remember what grandpa would always say. " Where's the beer? and you call yourself a fisherman!"

-24 on Meacham Lake in the Adirondacks. Had been that cold for several days in early January. But lots of snow on the lake.....I joked with my buddy on the first hole we drilled.
"Wouldn't it be funny if you popped through with your auger right away and it's only like 2 inches thick?"
"Ha,ha. That would be funny.!"

Pop.

We were on about 2 1/2 inches of ice.

We did not move much that day and just stayed in the shanty. It was useless. The blowing snow was filling up our tip-up holes instantly and freezing.

I think "a lot" of them are Canadian, so they are talking Celsius

Here's one for you. You need some basic algebra to figure it out. What temp is fahrenheit the same as celsius?
F=1.8 C +32
You need to replace the F by C and  solve the equation:
C=1.8 C + 32.
Answer coming up soon.
You'll see when the temp gets in the low negatives they are about the same. ;)

-52 without windchill and was below -60 with the windchill, needless to say I had the wood stove a rockin in the shack but had an amazing day burbot were biting like crazy. Last couple weeks has been -30 to -40 and colder before this warmup came last week, fished almost everyday in the cold. It's above freezing here now and more warm weather for the weekend will be nice to fish outside without bundling right up and not fighting to keep the holes open
