As promised we will keep the pics posted, bigtoe has all the pics on his camera. He should be posting this evening.

  Dane,

The Kalwall material is approximately .060 thick... about 1/16 of an inch. I have about 20 sheets of this material 5x10. It is a translucent white color, pretty light, and really strong. However, I did not end up using it because we decided to go with aluminum panels instead.

As Jimmyrig mentioned we have been working on his shack the past couple weekends. This thing is turning out awesome! Here are a bunch of pics:

Pic of the frame, roof rafters, and wood stove bump out completely welded. Also has the floor insulated:

Pic of the bump out with the burgundy color siding we chose:

Advantech flooring:

Pic of the countertop for the sink and cooktop:

Framed bench that will go around most of the shack, will also include storage under the seats:

Jacks on all four corners:

Wow is right - that looks awesome... great idea with the jacks too.

Hopefully IS members get a discount on the tours - you'll be showing this thing off more than you'll be fishing -

Enjoy it...

 Hello Poolguy,

We started with an aluminum 4 place sled trailer, guessing that wieghed about 300- 500lbs. or somewhere around there. The actual aluminum framing (walls, roof, and bench structure) should not be much more than 300 lbs. Aluminum tube is light and very strong, and makes a good sturdy frame. Probably 1/3 the weight of wood. Hoping to keep the shack under 1200 lbs..... not bad for being 8.5 feet wide x 15 feet long not including the bumpout for the stove.

Thanks for the good word and compliments guys! We have built many shacks over the years, It is almost as fun building them as it is fishing out of them...... The kids will stay on the ice all day if they have a nice shack to warm up in, and that means more fishing time for the dads. We will post pics of all progress.

Bring on the ice!!!

Great Work Guys! That will be an Awesome Shack when its finished.

I've built a few different shacks myself over the years. Each with different materials. Aluminum is a great/light weight way to go. Just curious with metal siding? Does it tend to sweat much and is there a lot of condensation? I used metal roofing with 1-5/8" metal studs and 1-1/2 rigid foam insulation and when the shack would heat up, the shack would tend to sweat a bit. I would crack the windows a bit and that seemed to help. Most likely just too much humidity inside.

Same happened with my buddies shack which he converted from an aluminum utility trailer and that one had a lot of condensation where the roof would actually drip.

Great Job on the build and look forward to more pics of the finished product.

NH troutfisherman,

I hope that will not be an issue, one of the good things about wood heat, it should be dry in there. We also are installling two crank up roof vents in the roof as well..... The shanty will have 8 large windows that will also slide open to create airflow if needed.

We are also using a tinted twinwall polycarbonate roof ( greenhouse material ) I do not think that will sweat.... But We will find out sooner than later I hope.

I used basement slider windows (roughly 18x36") on my last two bob houses I left them cracked open a little to provide some vetalation and also had a vent in the ceiling/soffit. As long as there was some kind of ventilation it wasn't too bad. I was just curious with using metal siding if that would affect it at all? The wood stove may be better also? I would heat my shack with a Big Buddy Mr Heater (propane)

Good Luck with the build. Its looking Great!

Man that's going to be a sweet setup once it's finished, how are you welding the aluminium with tig or a spool gun? I would love to have something like that I could go out and veg in it after a argument with the wife. lol

  Hey Shotty,

Mostly TIG, but my buddy Bigtoe is a spoolgun guy.... So he has added his share of the work. It is going to be a great place to spend the weekends and maybe a few nights after work. I like to cook supper with my two boys out there after they get out of school.

Thanks Jiggin,  keep those suggestions coming... as you can imagine this shanty is not an inexpensive project so i do not want to forget or miss the important stuff. I got 12 of those windows in that one pic, they are super light, and we are gonna use 8 of them, you can see the openings in the framing. I do not want to have to keep getting up and twisting my neck around to try to check traps and such..... We will be able to see really well I hope. Gonna be a beast at 8.5 x 15 from back to tip of v front, not including the 30" bump out that is not framed yet. My goal is to keep it around 1000 lbs. or less....... we will see. Any recommendations for covering floor?
How about that deck over stuff...seals and slip resistant.
