Newfound Circus 2012

12/31/2011

Well it's that time of year again where we bring the Circus to town. Bring some entertainment to not only the lake but share some stories on Ice Shanty.
For those that don't know, the Newfound Circus covers the entire lake, not just certain areas of the lake. We who fish it are all part of the the "act" in some way shape or form if you will. Those who fish it and want information as to what is working, what depth, colors, conditions of the lake in certain areas, safety updates, emergency's, find someone etc....or just general entertainment from a slow day of fishing can tune onto channel 5.5 on your FRS radios. Keep in mind it is not a child friendly channel, it's pretty much free flowing. So if you get offended, best to change the channel. All are always welcome to participate and holler out so we know your out there and add to the fun. It is what we make of it.
Lastly, try to help someone out this year at least once this season. Nothing big, just a lending hand for example. Let that person know that he / she has been tagged to Pay it forward. Not necessarily that day but this season. Preferably on Newfound.

Now for the bad news and back to reality:
Unfortunately I don't believe the Circus will be rolling into town tomorrow to start off the new year. Last time this happened was back in 2001. Bad ice conditions.

I'm still hitting the ponds till the ice is safe enough to support the Circus and all the Shenanigans that come with it.

01/01/2012

Happy New Year! Went brown, brookie and rainbow fishing today.

Laker Taker, Slimey and I went out this morning and fished till 10:30am. Got nothing today. Figures as we've told Slimey that we've been doing good lately and when he finally gets to go, nothing.....So...eithe r we were lying or Slimey's bad luck. I know we werent lying so.....Slimey's gonna have to start fishing alone.....kidding (I think).  ::)

Weather was warm and some water on the ice. As the morning went on, it got a bit cooler and the ice was starting to dry out a bit. There was around 5 - 6".

Going for lakers tomorrow, after all tis the season!

I started reading this thread last season.  I am staying at Newfound for the winter this season and cant wait to get out.  I hope to meet some of you out there soon, like wednesday hopefully.  Good luck to all and be safe -Jack-

I see your in Bridgewater. Where abouts? Bring a Motorola walkie Talkie and tune to channel 5.5, the "official" channel of Newfound. ;) Welcome to the board.

went to lake-x to meet jiggin,and lakertaker but got the lake mixed up and went to lake-y.....lol...i can be an idiot like that sometimes....just ask bucktail.... ;D
fished lake -y, and only got one flag.......wind picked up and left........sorry about that jiggin........  :)

Too funny Tippin! We were on Lake X too.....they all are, remember.

Anyways:

01/02/2012

Went lake trout fishing today. Jigged in 35 fow with a gold kastmaster and cut bait. I managed to get skunked (a couple of flags but nobody home.....shiner all chewed up).
Laker Taker had a good day with 3 lakers. Biggest was 24" but skinny. All caught on tip ups. We set up the portable and underwater camera and jigged inside. Never saw a laker on the camera. Underwater visibility was good for the most part.

Tippin was suppose to join us today but got mixed up and ended up on another lake. Frog and Fishnet came out and fished too. Didn't realize it was them till we were tearing down and getting ready to leave. Had a nice quick visit before we left. They toughed out the day on the open ice.

Weather wasn't as bad as predicted. Winds were not steady which was nice. Did get some pretty good gusts from time to time. Great to have a jig stick in my hand and be jigging again on hard water for lakers. Now I just need to set the barb in em.

hello all and happy new year !!!!!  it has been a very short first ice for me. so far 1 brown 4 brookies 1 rainbow and now 3 lakers but whos counting. yes nhtf i always keep count.as for pictures youve seen most of them from my P.R. guy jiggin who is very good and always right there with his trusty camera. even when you dont want a picture like when i get a green type of fish. lol  ..  thanks again jiggin u da man!!!!
wish everybody a safe and fishfull 2012 from one of the circus clowns .     one question for the circus folks  WHOS GONNA BE THE BEARDED LADY ??????????
